WSIU channel 8 is a PBS member station based and located in Carbondale, Illinois, at Southern Illinois University. Programming can also be seen on WUSI-TV channel 16 in Olney, Illinois, a translator. Both stations serve the extreme southern part of Illinois and portions of Indiana, Kentucky, and Missouri, and broadcast the full PBS schedule.

WSIU also operates FM radio stations, which are all members of NPR and PRI. WSIU's radio stations are WSIU Carbondale, 91.9 FM, WUSI Olney, 90.3 FM, and WVSI Mt. Vernon, 88.9 FM.

While classes are in session, River Region Evening Edition, a live student-produced newscast, is shown Monday through Thursday at 5:00 p.m. CT, with repeats of WSIU InFocus shown on Friday at 5:00 p.m. CT.

The Emmy winning, student-produced alt.news 26:46 occasionally airs on Sundays at 10:00 p.m.
