WrestleMania VII WrestleMania VIII WrestleMania IX

WrestleMania VIII was the eighth annual WrestleMania professional wrestling pay-per-view produced by the World Wrestling Federation (WWF). It took place on April 5, 1992 at the Hoosier Dome in Indianapolis, Indiana. The tagline for the event was "The Macho/Flair Affair." This was the last WrestleMania to be held in a stadium until WrestleMania X-Seven. The Theme Song of this event is called "Worldwide Spectacle" by WWF's own Jim Johnston.

Hulk Hogan vs. Sid Justice

  • Reba McEntire sang a rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner" before the show.
  • Family Feud host Ray Combs was a special guest ring announcer for the eight-man tag match.
  • This is the first WrestleMania to use a generic WrestleMania ring apron skirt. It would continue to be used until WrestleMania 13.
  • A scheduled match between The British Bulldog and The Berzerker did not take place due to time restraints.
  • This was the only WrestleMania to feature Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan as commentators for every match. It was also the final WrestleMania to feature Gorilla Monsoon as a commentator.
  • In the weeks leading up to WrestleMania, Flair claimed to have pictures of he and Elizabeth as a couple. Some pictures (which were later said to be 'fakes' in terms of the storyline) were published in WWF Magazine, but Flair said he saved the 'best picture of all' to be unveiled on the big screens on the Hoosier Dome. The picture was never shown at the show nor mentioned again.
  • The second consecutive WrestleMania (and fourth overall) to feature a title match ending in a count out or disqualification. In this instance, Money, Inc. retained their tag titles by being counted out.
  • This would be Jake "The Snake" Roberts' last WWF appearance for four years.
  • The WWF title and Intercontinental title matches both had blood, which was highly taboo in the WWF at the time. Speculation was that Bret Hart was able to convince the backstage crew that he had been accidentally "busted open," but Ric Flair was caught blading directly on camera and was fined several thousand dollars.
  • This was the second WrestleMania where Randy Savage won the WWF Championship, and the last.
  • It was widely rumored that the main event of this show was scheduled to be Ric Flair vs. Hulk Hogan in a WWF Title "dream match" which had been built up for months. Supposedly the plan was changed when news broke of Hogan's departure, or perhaps because of an unwillingness on Hogan's part to lose to Flair (though the fact that Flair lost the title to Randy Savage anyway puts this in question). A Flair-Hogan main event was initially announced on WWF television, but only by way of planting the seeds for Sid Justice's heel turn which led to the eventual Hogan-Justice main event.
  • Sid Eudy wrestled in two WrestleManias in his career, WrestleMania VIII and WrestleMania 13. He was in the main event of both shows, although under different names (Sid Justice and Sycho Sid).
  • The Ultimate Warrior returned to the WWF for the first time since SummerSlam 1991 after an 8 month hiatus to save Hulk Hogan.
  • The finish to the Justice-Hogan match actually did not occur as planned. The original plan was for Hogan to hit the leg drop on Justice and for Papa Shango to do a run in and break up the pin causing a disqualification. However, Papa Shango missed his cue and was late in getting down to the ring. Justice improvised by kicking out of the leg drop. From there, Earl Hebner would disqualify Justice when his manager, Harvey Wippleman, interfered.
  • This is the only Wrestlemania to feature a main event that ended in disqualification.
  • This was The Undertaker's second consecutive WrestleMania win.
  • The Legion Of Doom were originally supposed to be the challengers for the Tag Team Championships but left the WWF briefly before returning at WrestleMania.
  • This event was the first appearance of Owen Hart in a match at a WrestleMania under his real name. Owen had appeared three years prior at WrestleMania V as the Blue Blazer.
