The World Kidney Day (WKD) is an international observance that aims to raise awareness about the heavy burden of chronic kidney disease (CKD). WKD is a joint initiative of the International Society of Nephrology (ISN) and the International Federation of Kidney Foundations (IFKF). The inaugural event against kidney disease kicked-off in March 2006, and since has marked the second Thursday of March as the official World Kidney Day[1].
Guided by the WKD Steering Committee β includes 4 members from both organizations β and a scientific advisory committee, WKD campaigns to inform and educate health policy-makers, people who are at highest risk of CKD, and the general public that kidney disease is common, harmful and treatable[2].
