Game 23: Tchigorin blundered horribly in the final game, playing 32.Bb4?? here, handing Steinitz an easy mate in two (32...Rxh2+) and the World Championship.

The fourth World Chess Championship was held in Havana between January 1 and February 28, 1892. Holder William Steinitz narrowly defeated challenger Mikhail Tchigorin.

The match was of twenty games; the first player to score 10 ½ or win ten games would win the Championship. In the event of a 10-10 tie, the players would continue until one had won ten games. If it reached a draw of nine games each, Steinitz would retain the title.

The score was 10-10 after twenty games, so both players continued until one had won ten games.
