WJKT, "Fox 16", is a television station in Jackson, Tennessee affiliated with the Fox Broadcasting Company. WJKT signed on in April 1985 as WJWT, the area's third television station (after WBBJ-TV and WLJT). The station changed its call sign to WMTU in 1990 and WJKT in 2001.

Until 2006, WJKT was an affiliate of the UPN television network. When it was announced that UPN and the WB would consolidate their programming to become the CW Television Network, WJKT declined to affiliate with the CW or another new network, the News Corporation-owned MyNetworkTV, choosing to affiliate with Fox instead. The affiliation switch took place on August 21, 2006.

The station currently does not have a website of its own. Instead, it shares its website with WPTY-TV and WLMT in Memphis.

WJKT was the first television station in West Tennessee to broadcast a digital television signal. The transmitter is located in Alamo, Tennessee. The station is owned by Clear Channel, which on April 20, 2007 entered into an agreement to sell its entire television stations group to the private equity firm Providence Equity Partners.[2]

[edit] News broadcasts

WJKT does not air national news programming except for Fox News programming. The station currently does not have a local news broadcast. However, it airs Eyewitness News Everywhere at 9:00, a simulcast from sister station WLMT, an affiliate of The CW in Memphis, Tennessee.
