[edit] Notability and disamiguation

OK, I'm a bit confused here. What does NN amateur Theatricl company mean? And how is this page different from Altona City Theatre or Gemco Players? If it because the originator of this page chose the word amatuer rather than community? If so I will happily change it. I also found Adelaide Repertory Theatre and Beeston Musical Theatre Group. I note there was a discussion about merging Community theatre and Amateur theatre, but it seems to have stalled based on many differing opinions of the definitions found in US, UK and Australia among others. I actually suggested a compromise of non-professional theatre, but was a little late on the scene. However, this is my preferred descriptor. I will endeavour to add citations, but I'm not sure specifically how this will work. (Robhar174 02:21, 20 March 2007 (UTC))

I am now less confused and, after much reading an researching, I have removed the notice. The NN listing, not to mention the many offshoots that such research spawns, is very interesting in itself and the strict descriptions of notability would wipe out heaps of great content I view everyday on WikiPedia.Robhar174 06:49, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
Hi Rob,
Sorry, I just got the email you sent me due to a problem with my home computer. Best approach for discussing matters with contributors is via a message at their talk page on Wikipedia.

The thing about a prod template is it may readily be removed by any contributor and you have done exactly the right thing in removing it if you feel the article is a worthwhile addition to the encyclopedia - just as I didn't particularly do anything wrong putting it up there in the first place. This article would be improved dramatically through incorporating references to sources independent of the Theatre Company itself which document the theater company's history. If none exist, it probably lends weight to my view that the theater company is not sufficiently notable for inclusion. Garrie 06:27, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks Garrie,
I meant no offence, in the end, but you should have seen my face when I first read the notice. I apologise if I over reacted, initially. As for notability, I am still getting my head around it. It is not a question of independent links, but of the longevity of such links. I will toil on. Robhar174 09:13, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
There is a great deal of confusion with this article as Australia has a much more popular, internationally recognised, professional theatre company with exactly the same name. I refer editors to this website Official Windmill Theatre Company/Windmill Performing Arts website. In Australia, the definition between amateur and professional theatre is very strong. It is defined by having professionally-trained performers and crew, with contracts, a wage and proven skills. Arguably, Wikipedia should preference professional companies over amateur theatre... though that may lead to heated discussion. In this particular case, I would suggest that the professional company take precedence. It was set up by the Australian government, tours extensively and has an outstanding track record. But, to be fair, a link to this page should be included.(Moviefreak26 (talk) 06:42, 11 February 2008 (UTC))

As far as I know, Windmill Performing Arts does not have a wikipedia presence, so I'm not sure where the conflictis. Also while Windmill Performing Arts is indeed a theatre company, they are not Windmill Theatre Company. Not that I can see on the official website.Robhar174 09:13, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Whilst technically called Windmill Performing Arts, the professional company is known colloquially throughout Australia as Windmill Theatre Company. As it is a national, award-winning company it is the one most likely to be searched. For the sake of both companies, a re-direct from this page to that one, and on that page to this one would be useful.(Moviefreak26 (talk) 01:36, 28 February 2008 (UTC))

Sorry, what I just wrote was insane. I meant that there should be a link to each other's page, not automatic re-directs. (Moviefreak26 (talk) 01:39, 28 February 2008 (UTC))
