Lead FAC

Maybe more about how it's produced in a factory? I'm no chemist though. I'll try to think of more. RlevseTalk 22:40, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

I've asked Bduke about this, he's a chemist/science type like you. RlevseTalk 18:04, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

Scouting WikiProject in the Signpost

We'll be in the Signpost on Wednesday, 2 Jan about 17:00 UTC, someone noticed us, be sure to read it, many of us get it, read it on my talk page if you like. RlevseTalk 02:00, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

  • Thanks for drawing attention to it: I'm a subscriber myself (see my nice sidebar on this talkpage). Wim van Dorst (talk) 13:27, 2 January 2008 (UTC).

FAC review

I'd be most grateful if you'd review Sid Barnes at FAC. Even (especially) if you know nothing about cricket. Thanks in anticipation! --Dweller (talk) 12:49, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:3rdJamboreebadge.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:3rdJamboreebadge.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:19, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

Congratulations, Wim. I'm glad to see that all of your work was recognised with a consensus for re-promotion. I'd be happy to work with you in other areas in the future. :) EdChem (talk) 09:47, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

E. Urner Goodman

Could you look at this and see what you think it needs for Aclass? Leave on talk there or edit as you like. RlevseTalk 11:18, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

Diketene

The article is all about one specific compound, with formula C4H4O2. It mentions substituted diketenes in passing, but I'm sure that benzene also mentions substituted benzenes in passing and that doesn't make it "not a chemical compound". --Itub (talk) 09:24, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

  • Hi Itub, thanks for keeping an eye on all those assessments that I do for WP:Chem. After re-reading the (now clearer) article, I can see you're right. Adjusted. Wim van Dorst (talk) 19:44, 21 January 2008 (UTC).

Returning

After much thought and deliberation I have decided to return. Many wikians contacted me by various means and I truly appreciate the support from all of them. Man, did I need that wiki break! I have learned from it and will use the experience to improve. RlevseTalk 22:05, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

  • Yes, I'd already seen that. Congrat on reaching 123rd ;-). Wim van Dorst (talk) 22:07, 21 January 2008 (UTC).

Scouting template

I saw your edit comments at B-P House. The test version of {{Scouting}} would eliminate confusion by using a named field; for B-P House you would have used {{Scouting|places}}. See Template:Scouting/sandbox for the test version and Template:Scouting/testcases for examples; please discuss at Template talk:Scouting. --— Gadget850 (Ed) talk - 04:42, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Your code

Did you know your code is making your script page show here: Category:Unassessed_Scouting_articles? Ok with me if ok with you. RlevseTalk 11:05, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

  • I didn't know, and I'm sure it didn't before, otherwise I'd seen it in the WP:Chem category for unassessed articles that I'm active working on: I had already done the W. The point is now fixed (well, kludged is a more appropriate term). Thanks for pointing it out. Wim van Dorst (talk) 23:01, 6 February 2008 (UTC).

Petrus Jacobus Kipp

I was thinking of writing an article about Petrus Jacobus Kipp to turn the red link in Kipp apparatus into a blue one. I found that information in English is relatively limited, but there is already a long article about him in the Dutch Wikipedia (nl:Petrus Jacobus Kipp). I don't know if this kind of project interests you, but if it does perhaps you could translate the article into English? My reading skills in Dutch are approximately zero (although I could give Google translation a try ;-). Cheers, Itub (talk) 10:50, 7 February 2008 (UTC).

  • Fun assignment ;-). Now feel free to carry it further. Wim van Dorst (talk) 21:47, 8 February 2008 (UTC).
  • Thanks! It is a very interesting article, now that I can read it! :) --Itub (talk) 07:51, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

Review

We want to get William Hillcourt to FA, could you give it a look over? RlevseTalk 03:25, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

  • Looks good to me. Would get my FA support without problems. Attention point might be the list of reference which are mostly websites and vary vague references in books (but you have to know the books to be able to assess this). Wim van Dorst (talk) 22:47, 20 February 2008 (UTC).
Do you want to vote for it ;-) RlevseTalk 23:31, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
  • It made it to FA! RlevseTalk 11:24, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
    • Congrats: I was otherwise engaged for a couple of days, and lo and behold! Wim van Dorst (talk) 22:55, 26 February 2008 (UTC).

Piet

Was Piet J. Kroonenberg born May 9, 1926 in Amsterdam? Is he still alive? Is there enough info on him to get this to FA? RlevseTalk 18:16, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

  • As far as I know, indeed Piet is still alive. I recall to have even found him (last time I looked to fill the stub article) in the phonebook for a not far away town. The date of 1926-05-09 is the date he used in his autobiography, where he did not identify himself (Codename 'J') about the war years. I have not found corroboration that he really himself is born then. Creating an FA out of it, is daunting. It would be different if I actually knew him personally: then I'd simply would visit him and ask his life's story. And no, there's not enough public information to make this article even B-class. Wim van Dorst (talk) 22:44, 20 February 2008 (UTC).
Too bad, his story fascinates me. RlevseTalk 23:31, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Aluminium hydride

Hi there,

I just chanced upon your note for me last year! I must apologize that I didn't see it earlier. I'm not sure what you mean to say. I'm guessing it has something to do with chem-awb (talk · contribs) tagging talk pages. Can you clarify your comment please? Thanks. --Rifleman 82 (talk) 17:11, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

  • Hi Rifleman, I think the remark was a surreptitious compliment after a spur of your edits. I probably did some re-rating, including the aluminium hydride article, and was nicely impressed with it, so I included the recommendation to look at the A-Class requirements suggesting that you'd go on with it. And perhaps the A-Class review has started now: Axiosaurus has added some more detailed recommendations for improvement. Go for it! Wim van Dorst (talk) 22:05, 22 February 2008 (UTC).
    • Ah, I see. Thanks for the compliment, and yes, I will see what we can do with potential A-class articles! --Rifleman 82 (talk) 03:28, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

Sulphadoxine

All that category updating looks great! Is it supposed to be on the talk page, or the article itself? Eleven even (talk) 05:46, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

  • Hi Eleven even. Yes, all meta-information about an article should not be in the article itself, but elsewhere, mostly on the talkpage. I do WikiProject Chemicals (aka WP:Chem) assessment for several years now, actually, our WikiProject was one of the first to do so. You just need a good grasp of the wikiproject subject to estimate the articles importance in the field, and reasonable experience in WP to assess the current quality status of the article. Join any wikiproject of your interest and start working: your effort will always be appreciated. Wim van Dorst (talk) 14:08, 1 March 2008 (UTC).
