Bill played for Motherwell at left half. On April 19, 1952, he scored Motherwell's second goal in a 4–0 thrashing of Dundee in the Scottish Cup Final of that year. The match was watched by 136,274 spectators and was played at Hampden Park. Having lost 1–0 to Celtic in the final the year before, it was Redpath's chance to get his hands on the trophy.
Redpath represented Scotland on nine occasions, but was unable to get on the score sheet.
