The film was listed as being in production as far back as April 1993. With a scrip by Vince Gilligan titled Home Fries, the project was set up at Warner Brothers.[1] By August 1994, Sydney Pollack was set to direct, though with a script by Lynn Grossman titled The Putnam Project.[2]
