[edit] Interest

Hello, I just happened to notice this page, and was wondering what membership in such a project would entail. Western Sahara and the plight of the Sahrawi have always been subjects of interest for me, and I beleive I would find helping with such a project enjoyable.Conrino 06:26, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

===>I'm posting this at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Western Sahara and User talk:Conrino Let me personally welcome you to Wikipedia, and say hello to a fellow supporter of the Sahrawi cause. If you want to help out on the WikiProject Western Sahara, see here and here. If you have any questions, let me know. -Justin (koavf), talk 17:01, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Project directory

Hello. The WikiProject Council has recently updated the Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. This new directory includes a variety of categories and subcategories which will, with luck, potentially draw new members to the projects who are interested in those specific subjects. Please review the directory and make any changes to the entries for your project that you see fit. There is also a directory of portals, at User:B2T2/Portal, listing all the existing portals. Feel free to add any of them to the portals or comments section of your entries in the directory. The three columns regarding assessment, peer review, and collaboration are included in the directory for both the use of the projects themselves and for that of others. Having such departments will allow a project to more quickly and easily identify its most important articles and its articles in greatest need of improvement. If you have not already done so, please consider whether your project would benefit from having departments which deal in these matters. It is my hope that all the changes to the directory can be finished by the first of next month. Please feel free to make any changes you see fit to the entries for your project before then. If you should have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you. B2T2 15:02, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia Day Awards

Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 20:01, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] POV concerns

POV? If you have some suggestions to change this page radically, please list them. Otherwise, I founded this project, so I will revert it back to what I had previously. Why would you take off useful and relevant information (e.g. the to-do list)? -Justin (koavf)·T·C·M 15:32, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

The to-do list is there in the article not removed as you alledge. It is not because you create the project that you can write whatever you want in it. What you call useful information was a naked Pro-Polisario POV-pushing. If you find anything pro-Morocco POV or anti-Polisario, bring it to the talk page first.--A Jalil 15:36, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
Contradiction Here's the contradiction: you want me to bring pro-Morocco bias to the talk page first, but you feel justified in deleting what you think is pro-Polisario bias without talking. Isn't that hypocritical? The template was, in fact, removed from the infobox, and that is plainly obvious. Why did you remove that? -Justin (koavf)·T·C·M 15:38, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
POV There are other WikiProjects with flags of unrecognized countries, states, nationalist movements, etc: Wikipedia:WikiProject_Abkhazia, Wikipedia:WikiProject_Palestine, Wikipedia:WikiProject_Assyria, and Wikipedia:WikiProject_Ossetia, for instance. There is no POV requirement for the display of a flag on a WikiProject page. I'm re-starting this WikiProject, and I would appreciate it if you didn't vandalize the page with mass deletions, the removal of the template from the infobox, and bolding inappropriate categories to prove some political point. -Justin (koavf)·T·C·M 20:44, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] POV

  • This page does not separate between WS and the "sadr".
  • The "sadr" flag has nothing to here.
  • All small visulas and templates must be cleaned out acordingly (WS is a territory that must be presented in neutral manner)
  • I will action this step by step.
wikima 21:29, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
Wikipedia:WikiProject Morocco doesn't really separate between Morocco and Western Sahara, either. It seems perversely balanced. ¦ Reisio 21:41, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
This is a wikiproject for Western Sahara, Reisio, not the SADR. I looked at the page for Wikipedia:WikiProject Morocco and there is not a single occurence of the words "Western Sahara" or Southern provinces. I think that is correctly done.--A Jalil 21:52, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
Yet you guys have Talk:Western Sahara marked as part of WikiProject Morocco - does that seem neutral to you? :p (rhetorical) ¦ Reisio 03:45, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
Hello My name is Justin, and I founded this WikiProject. Did you read the title and scope sections? This is what the project is. If you want a different project, you can form one yourself, and I promise I will not change it around and mutilate it through entryism. -Justin (koavf)·T·C·M 23:53, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
This is ridiculous. All pages and projects in Wikipedia are founded by the community (started by one person), and no one claims ownership/patent/copyright of any thing here. If you think this is your property, then you either should change the naming to Wikiproject Justin Koavf, or find a place else than Wikipedia. As long as you claim this project is about Western Sahara, it is not yours. Sorry.--A Jalil 07:58, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
You're right It is ridiculous to do things like, for instance, make links to Moroccan categories bold. Why did you do that? I'm not claiming ownership on my part, but entryism on yours. -Justin (koavf)·T·C·M 15:29, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Western Sahara not the sahrawi republic

  • By it creation this project page had been dedicated to Western Sahara and not the the so-called Sahrawi Republic.
  • If you like to develop one for this entity republic feel free:
  • WS is one thiung, the "sadr" an other
  • It owuld be no problem to insert all pro-Morocco views in here, but we want to keep it neutral don't we?
wikima 16:48, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
What's the matter - competition tiring you out? :p ¦ Reisio 03:46, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
  • I don't know why you guys can't make the difference between WS and "sadr" or what ever entitiy?
  • You have been around for ages and still you seem to have difficulties to ujnderstand this.
  • But you see, I don't lose hope.
Cheers - wikima

[edit] Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals#Berbers

I believe this very unique culture, with a one-of-a-kind alphabet Tifinagh and history dating back as far as ancient Egypt, merits it's own WikiProject. There is a beautiful portal at Portal:Berbers, and I think Wikipedia would benefit greatly from this. Chris 02:28, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] List of countries by formation dates

Hello everyone! There is a discussion at List of countries by formation dates that concernes this wikiproject. It relates to the fact that some users include former colonies (such as Algeria or Western Sahara/Ifni) in the columm for the last territorial changes of their respective colonial power, and this because "formely" such colonies were considered "provinces". I believe this discussion and its result may interest you. Thank you! The Ogre (talk) 20:34, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Project banner

It is my sincerest hope that this statement is not taken as being an attempt to subvert this project, take control over it, or any similar thing. However, the Template:AfricaProject has recently had parameters put into it to allow it to provide separate assessments for all the "Africa" projects, including this one. If in the interests of reducing banner clutter the members of this project were to choose to use that banner, please let me know and I can adjust any categories accordingly to permit it. Thank you. John Carter (talk) 00:21, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Proposal to consolidate African country WikiProject banners

Template:AfricaProject was recently modified, and now contains individual parameters for all countries in Africa (see usage notes). Since project-specific assessment for all African countries can now be accomplished through the template, a proposal has been made at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Africa to consolidate all individual African country WikiProject banners.

Comments or suggestions would be most welcome. Thank you, Black Falcon (Talk) 23:30, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] POV bis

While doubtless pointless, I would note that the stated objective of standardisation and neutrality are rather in tension given some highly discussable "standard" references on terms - e.g. Sahrawi adopts a pointedly (and somewhat pointless in many ways) Polisario / Arab Leftist assertion on identity and state of society re the Western Saharan tribes. Empirically it is highly doubtful to assert tribe is no longer a referent in Saharan society, whether Western Sahara or other Saharan / Sahraoui peoples. Those referents should be modified or deleted. (collounsbury (talk) 17:30, 6 May 2008 (UTC))

Well that last edit is a start, glad to see some reasonableness now. But in no way enough to make a neutral overview or baseline. A review of the current Sahraoui society description which was expanded highlights the contradiction (never mind you have a comparative without a clear referant). (collounsbury (talk) 21:13, 7 May 2008 (UTC))
Okay I'm happy to help; if you've got a better re-write, just go for it. I'm not concerned that you'll substantially damage the text. -Justin (koavf)TCM☯ 21:49, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
Then I will give it a go this weekend (collounsbury (talk) 14:44, 9 May 2008 (UTC))
