I've been working on Wikipedia:WikiProject Library of Congress Country Studies, a Wikiproject designed to incorporate the Library of Congress Country Studies into Wikipedia. The Country Studies are in the public domain, so the text may be freely used here. The Country Studies program has just released a profile on Morocco with information on Morocco's history, society, economy, and other topics. See the profile here. [edit] The whole information relating to Morocco represents a rewriting of history

Essentially by not including that what you dont want to remember. It is superficial at best, and criminaly dishonest at worst.

In relation to the article on Morocco:

It can be argued that the last 50 years in Morocco’s history have been the most relevant as it has become an independent country and has had a belligerent foreign policy with its neighbours, Algeria and western Sahara.

How come the only link to the green march is in the Geography section and is not mentioned in the history??? How come there is no link AT ALL in the article to the sand war

How come that the hundreds of victims of 30 years of repression are written of with a couple of lines: " Hassan II became King of Morocco on March 3, 1961. His rule would be marked by political unrest, and the ruthless government response earned the period the name "the years of lead"."

If you visit the article on Hassan II you get a little bit more of information, but why is this information not included in the main article about Morocco??? Is it only of interest to the personality of Hassan II??

Why is there no mention of the reasons for this political unrest, and the civil and student protest marches that were brutally dissolved by police? Why is there no mention of the extensive use of torture against dissidents? Why isn't there a reference to Tazmarat and other concentration camps to which these where sent?

One aspect of Moroccan torture is that the King is "the giver of light" so many of those imprisoned are submitted to entire years at a time without any light...

Even important aspects of its pre-independence history are ignored. From the ethnological map you can see that Morocco is mainly divided by Arabs in the Plains and Berebers in the mountains. For hundreds of years tribal relations prevailed and when there was disagreement conflict would arise, with a deadlock, as the mountains proved superb defence positions. It was only until the French arrived and set up an effective road system to move troops around, that the country could finally be ruled under one unified leadership.

Why is there no mention about this??

Conclusion

The rule under Hassan II was oppressive and repressive, he killed thousands for various reasons, and several attempts where made on his life, mainly from his own military. He started wars with Algeria when they where weak, just after their independence. He took over Western Sahara when Spain was weak, creating a conflict that is raging today.

That this dark history of modern Morocco is dispatched in the article with a couple of passing comments is shameful. We may have an excellent encyclopaedic article, but it is useless if it says nothing.

There are thousands of words to be written, but it seems that Hassan II has done a good job and the truth is buried and forgotten to the majority of its people and the international community. What will happen if I add this information to the page?? Will the Moroccan press (censorship) office come in and delete it?? I wouldn’t be surprised if this comment disappears on Monday.


  • Your saying is too onesided. All countries/Chief of states have their dark sides.
  • Make (constructive) suggestions for change / compeltion in this page and lets see
  • Wikipedia is common work. The remark on Moroccan *censorichip* is just absurd.

Hello,

I've noticed that the page on Marrakech could use some work. The biggest problem is the Sites section, which provides several lists, but no descriptions/explanations at all. Most of the things listed can be removed, and the ones that remain should be described and explained in detail.

I am not a member of this WikiProject, and don't know much about Morocco. If someone has the time and knows the correct information, please fix it up.

[edit] Wikipedia Day Awards

Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Hello everyone! There is a discussion at List of countries by formation dates that concernes this wikiproject. It relates to the fact that some users include former colonies (such as Algeria or Western Sahara/Ifni) in the columm for the last territorial changes of their respective colonial power, and this because "formely" such colonies were considered "provinces". It is my sincerest hope that this statement is not taken as being an attempt to subvert this project, take control over it, or any similar thing. However, the Template:AfricaProject has recently had parameters put into it to allow it to provide separate assessments for all the "Africa" projects, including this one. If in the interests of reducing banner clutter the members of this project were to choose to use that banner, please let me know and I can adjust any categories accordingly to permit it. Thank you. [edit] Proposal to consolidate African country WikiProject banners

Template:AfricaProject was recently modified, and now contains individual parameters for all countries in Africa (see usage notes). Since project-specific assessment for all African countries can now be accomplished through the template, a proposal has been made at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Africa to consolidate all individual African country WikiProject banners.

Within WikiProject Companies I am trying to establish guidelines for all Lists of companies by country, the implementation of which would hopefully ensure a minimum quality standard and level of consistency across all of these related but currently disparate articles. The ultimate goal is the improvement of these articles to Featured List status. As a WikiProject that currently has one of these lists within your scope, I would really appreciate your feedback!
