[edit] Ticker Symbol Template for Bursa
I'm planning to create a template for placing ticker symbol of companies listed on Bursa Malaysia, at the same time grouping it into a category. An example would be Microsoft, which has two such templates in the beginning of the article.
So far I found two options for external linking. Example quote "1818" belongs to Bursa Malaysia Berhad.
If we can't have one option, I can have both templates created, but I prefer an option. So I welcome suggestions on this. Hytar 20:01, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
Is "1818" a company? Are you talking about creating something which results in this: eg: Sime Darby (KLSE: SIME) ... ? I'd say go for it. I dont know which is better, but i'd simply choose The Star's link. kawaputratorque 09:20, 14 November 2007 (UTC)- Also, according to Bursa Malaysia, they no longer are called "Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange", but are now known as "Malaysia Exchange". So, i believe the symbol should be "MYX", instead of "KLSE". kawaputratorque 09:44, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
- Fully agree with the idea Jannisri 11:18, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the feedback. In a few days I'll start this template and look around for articles on Malaysian listed companies to place this template. It's going to link to The Star for now but it isn't final. Here is how it's going to look like (example):
- Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) (MYX: 5347) is the largest electricity utility company in Malaysia and also the largest power company in Southeast Asia with...
One more thing, please check out the history of Template:Hkex. The editors mentioned about naming conventions and they prefer the "common" one (SEHK). In our case, many might not have heard of MYX and may type {{klse|5347}} instead of {{myx|5347}}. So should I create 2 templates (and redirect KLSE)? Hytar 18:03, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
- Thats cool Hytar. About using "KLSE" or "MYX", i think we should use whichever is the official symbol. If there is no official symbol, maybe u can use whichever. I think its not necessary to make 2 templates. Its your call. Another thing, why do u use the number ticker instead of alphabet tickers? E.g: (MYX: 5347), instead of (MYX: TENAGA). Is this the convention used? But, im fine with any really. Good luck! kawaputratorque 06:55, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
Our stock quote is in 4-digit number, unlike the States alphabet system. Anyway I've decided to stick to MYX since it's "official". Besides, I'll start the template (and place them in articles), while others follow suit... I'll deal with any changes later, after more feedbacks. -- Hytar (talk) 19:50, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
Finally, the template is created! Any assistance of placing the template in hard-to-find Malaysian companies (in Wikipedia) is welcomed. Hytar 19:35, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- Great job Hytar! I will add those tickers whenever i come across a listed company. kawaputratorque 16:10, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] November collaboration
Hi guys, we need more votes to determine which article we gonna collaborate on for November. So please vote. As u might know, the collaboration thing is for 1 month, but today is already 14 Nov. I was thinking that we just have the collaboration for the whole of December. This means, we close the voting process on 30 Nov. Just an idea. kawaputratorque 06:15, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Southeast Asian cinema task force
The Southeast Asian cinema task force was recently started as a joint project of WikiProject Films and WikiProject Southeast Asia. Editors who are writing about the Malaysian films are welcome to join the project, where they will find support for collaboration on new articles and the expansion and promotion of existing articles. — WiseKwai 11:26, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Interwiki
Most of the articles under WikProject Malaysia do not have any interwiki connection with the Malay Wikipedia. I would like to suggest that this will taken into consideration when composing articles related to Malaysia as these articles are also available in the Malay version. MSWiki (talk) 15:22, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] dromoz.com has been blacklisted due to spamming
There are still over 500 links to it on ~250 main space pages, mainly articles about Malaysian locations. I am going to start removing those links or making them non-clickable, since the pages can't be edited/saved while they contain a blacklisted URL. The original report of problems with this domain may be found here. --Versageek 19:34, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
- Im sorry im not sure what constitute "spam". The dromoz links provide maps for the many different geolocations in Malaysia. The website doesnt appear to be advertising anything or promoting any product or website. It doesnt seem to be consistent with WP:SPAM. If anything it looks like it is more of a matter or WP:EL. The user who placed these links (User:Thisisjonathanchan) appears to have been indefinitely blocked for innocently (?) placing these links, and he wasnt even given any warning. Is there something i am missing here? kawaputratorque 19:53, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] January collaboration
Hi there. We need more votes again for our January collaboration. As of December 24, only 6 members have voted. Please do exercise your right to vote!. Also want to wish a belated HariRayaHaji, a happy Xmas, and merry NewYear to everyone here. :-) kawaputratorque 03:30, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] MalaysiaKini
I'm probably not the only one but I now have a subscription to MalaysiaKini (but not the archives) so if anyone wants me to verify details in a recent article from there, drop a message on my talk page. Incidentally, Wikipedia:Verifiability does not forbid the use of subscription based sources (I've seen this claim before). I guess because few contributors have access, we probably don't make enough use of MalaysiaKini which is unfortunate since it provides an alternative POV to what appears in most of the government linked media and there is limited coverage of some issues outside of Malaysia (meaning no foreign sources). I don't know whether there's ever been any discussion but MalaysiaKini would IMHO meet the definition of Wikipedia:Reliable sources in most instances. BTW, do remember that foreign language sources are acceptable if there are no alternatives. So if something is covered in the Chinese media or Malay media then you're welcome to use those as sources. Nil Einne (talk) 22:26, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
- Ya this could be useful. I also think it is a reliable source, but i've heard other ppl here disagree. Is this a yearly subscribtion? kawaputratorque 06:35, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
- Apart from Malaysia Kini, the Malaysia Today is also another source. Malaysia Today news sometimes violates NPOV, however, Malaysia Today has stories that do not covered by printed media. For example the PKFZ story.Jannisri (talk) 13:39, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
- Citing Malaysia Today should nominally be for a "as it was reported" basis, or if the writings in the articles are also verifiable with other news sources (independent or government-owned). MT is not considerably reliable as a source of facts, as writers have occasionally been very outspoken while certain articles border conspiracy theories. - Two hundred percent (talk) 08:26, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
- Agree, the most reliable source of information is New Straits Times. Malaysia Today can provide secondary sources. Jannisri (talk) 08:47, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
- I'm treating the NST in the same vein as MT. The NST has the tendency to border pro-government propaganda itself. - Two hundred percent (talk) 03:35, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Project template up for speedy deletion
{{Malaysian collaboration nominee}}
This template is up for deletion. Im not sure if its really useful. If anyone think its useful go ahead and contest the deletion. kawaputratorque 11:09, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
Nvm. Its fixed. kawaputratorque 07:04, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] March Collaboration
Dear wikipedians, the collaboration of the month for March 2008 is Economy of Malaysia. Lets help make this a better article. Please inform others if you have time. Thanks. ќמшמφטтгמtorque 05:55, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Standisation of collaboration template
I have to object to part thereof of Kawaputra's indiscriminate reversion at the collab page. It's fair enough if minor changes such as the use of the hash and auto dates on the header are unnecessary, but I for one would prefer at least an additional section for comments, seeing some of our earlier nominations had them. From my experience with other collabs, templates provided for new nominations have space for at least support votes and accompanying comments. What we currently have is a system that apparently requires only votes with no allocated space for actual comments. The layout also implies a dumbed down system that favours numbers of votes instead of solid justifications and consensus. This has resulted in nominations that simply consist of bare votes winning over nominations that are accompanied by helpful explanations as to why the article in question merits a collab (see Malaysian Airlines over Kampar, Perak and Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party for example). - Two hundred percent (talk) 06:38, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
- Im sorry 200%. I think i overlooked the comments section before reverting your edits. Ya, go ahead and add that part. I have this knack to simplify everything. I would suggest this, but it is up to u guys:
- ===[[Article]]===
- # Comments optional/compulsory. ~~~~

- Thanks. I'll have the comment section added after April's nomination is selected. The current configuration is still a bit flawed though, since comments automatically count as support votes. - Two hundred percent (talk) 07:28, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
- Hmm, Im not sure how else we can decide which article gets chosen for the collaboration other than by looking at which article which gets the most votes. Looking at the merits provided by the nominators can lead to uncertainty. I dunno, what others think? ќמшמφטтгמtorque 11:06, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
- I know participants of this project in general tend to lack critical thinking, but that's not a good excuse to not improve the system. Plenty of collab projects in Wikipedia and WP:AFD rely on consensus rather than vote counts; so having a seperate comment section is a minimum must for fair selection. Besides, a system where one picks nominated articles based on the number of vote is fundamentally flawed due also to sockpuppets. - Two hundred percent (talk) 10:54, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Should {{discrimination}} be on ketuanan Melayu?
Please comment: Talk:Ketuanan_Melayu#.7B.7Bdiscrimination.7D.7D. Thanks! Johnleemk | Talk 16:27, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
- Why not? The link is there, innit? - Two hundred percent (talk) 10:57, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
- There's a valid dispute about whether it constitutes an actual form of discrimination. I'm uncomfortable with the way ketuanan Melayu itself is presented on {{discrimination}} since I don't think it's really a legal form of discrimination per se. Please comment on the talk page! [edit] Kadet Remaja Sekolah Malaysia -- appeal for assistance
Greetings. User:Keropi88 created this article a couple of weeks ago, but has failed to add substantial content to it. The KRSM page was created during the AfD discussion for another article on a branch of the organization, Sinar Bintang School Cadet Corps (SBKRS), by the same author. The branch article did not survive AfD, but the history was retained so that it could be used as a basis for material on the national organization.
I hope that someone from here at WP:MY can add some material to the article, as the organization is clearly notable. But if it remains in its current mostly-empty state, I will recommend that it be deleted per WP:CSD#A3. Thank you for your time. --Finngall talk 21:24, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Draft Guidelines for Lists of companies by country - Feedback Requested
Within WikiProject Companies I am trying to establish guidelines for all Lists of companies by country, the implementation of which would hopefully ensure a minimum quality standard and level of consistency across all of these related but currently disparate articles. The ultimate goal is the improvement of these articles to Featured List status. As a WikiProject that currently has one of these lists within your scope, I would really appreciate your feedback! You can find the draft guidelines here. Thanks for your help as we look to build consensus and improve Wikipedia! - Richc80 (talk) 04:52, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] June Collaboration
I want to suggest we defer the next collab article to July, mainly due to small number of participants in the nominations this month (only 4 votes). Please say if u support or not. If not, we just go ahead with Geography of Malaysia as this months collaboration. Thanks. ќמшמφטтгמtorque 07:30, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Proposal to rename "Pedra Branca dispute"
There is a discussion on whether to rename "Pedra Branca dispute" as "Sovereignty over Pedra Branca/Pulau Batu Puteh, Middle Rocks and South Ledge (Malaysia v. Singapore)", as this is the official name of the International Court of Justice case: see "List of International Court of Justice cases". Your comments on the article's talk page are welcome. — Cheers, JackLee –talk– 17:31, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Use of honorifics - Don't
As per WP:NAMES, I would like folks who are updating or adding new articles to not use honorifics (ie. Datuk, Tan Sri, etc) as part of the names of individuals -
"Wikipedia guidelines permit inline use of titles but forbid inline use of honorifics .. absence of an honorific title from inline usage does not and should not imply that the person does not hold a particular title that is associated with that (absent) honorific title - the infobox is the canonical location for all titles and honors."
I assume that we know that its not just Malaysians who are reading Wikipedia. Adding a Tan Sri in front of a person's name would just give a lot of folks that Tan is part of the person's name. Cheers. - Bob K 03:24, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
- Agreed. See also WP:MOS-MY. We may need to add the part about permitted usage in infobox. ќמшמφטтгמtorque 06:24, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Naming conventions for institutions with no established English translations
I have been doing full edits of the articles of our universities and other higher education related articles and have been using the commonly used Malay names for the public universities. Generally I based my naming convention on how the Ministry of Higher Education lists them in their English language website, except for those which do have common and established English translation of their names like University of Malaya for Universiti Malaya. One reason I did so was due to the haphazard way in which some of the translated names were rendered, eg. Universiti Putra Malaysia was mistranslated as University of Putra rather than Putra University. I understand this might be problematic in view of WP:NC(UE) but there are exceptions provided for (re: WP:NC(UE) - No established usage). I'd like to solicit some feedback and views on this and whether or not we can come out with a consistent policy about this on this Style Manual. Personally I'd still be partial to using an English translation but there should be some consensus achieved on how the names of institutions with no established English versions of their name are translated first before the articles are published. There are way too many articles related to Malaysia that are written in "English" with local language syntax and grammatical rules, eg. I'm pretty certain I saw the word prestasi mistranslated in one article as prestation quite a while back. - Bob K 14:01, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
