[edit] Crazy Horse
How about adding Neil Young and Crazy Horse to the Project? The articles are in fair shape already, and if they're not a Jam band, then what is? Fenrir2000 17:52, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Proposal for categorizing "taper-friendly bands"
Hi! I've created a proposal for categorizing "taper-friendly bands" aka "bands that allow taping". This is not comoletely within the purview of the jam bands project, but it has a strong overlap, so I'd like to invite project members to look at my proposal and comment/criticise or whatever. The proposal is at User:Xtifr/BTAT. It's not very complex, and I think it would be pretty easy to move forward with, but I want some feedback before I jump in. TIA. Xtifr 11:09, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
==Please.
This is an obvious advertising ploy for unknown bands and should not be cluttering up Wikipedia. There is a place for all this and it's known as My Space. Peak
[edit] Project Directory
Hello. The WikiProject Council is currently in the process of developing a master directory of the existing WikiProjects to replace and update the existing Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. These WikiProjects are of vital importance in helping wikipedia achieve its goal of becoming truly encyclopedic. Please review the following pages:
- User:Badbilltucker/Culture Directory,
- User:Badbilltucker/Culture Directory 2,
- User:Badbilltucker/Philosophy and religion Directory,
- User:Badbilltucker/Sports Directory,
- User:Badbilltucker/Geographical Directory,
- User:Badbilltucker/Geographical Directory/United States, (note: This page will be retitled to more accurately reflect its contents)
- User:Badbilltucker/History and society directory, and
- User:Badbilltucker/Science directory
and make any changes to the entries for your project that you see fit. There is also a directory of portals, at User:B2T2/Portal, listing all the existing portals. Feel free to add any of them to the portals or comments section of your entries in the directory. The three columns regarding assessment, peer review, and collaboration are included in the directory for both the use of the projects themselves and for that of others. Having such departments will allow a project to more quickly and easily identify its most important articles and its articles in greatest need of improvement. If you have not already done so, please consider whether your project would benefit from having departments which deal in these matters. It is my hope to have the existing directory replaced by the updated and corrected version of the directory above by November 1. Please feel free to make any changes you see fit to the entries for your project before then. If you should have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you. B2T2 21:42, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry if you tried to update it before, and the corrections were gone. I have now put the new draft in the old directory pages, so the links should work better. My apologies for any confusion this may have caused you. B2T2 00:28, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Wikipedia Day Awards
Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 18:03, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Brothers Past undeletion
Brothers Past has been successfully been moved from Deletion Review to AFD. In order for it to not be permanently deleted, it needs to be immediately cleaned up and voted to be kept. Thanks. Milchama 21:08, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] JGB (band)
I've added JGB (band) to the list of articles needing expansion. This is a stub article that I created recently, and there's now a discussion about whether or not JGB is notable. As the members of this project are probably aware, JGB is led by Melvin Seals and is a spin-off of the Jerry Garcia Band. On the talk page for the article, it's being pointed out that one major criterion for notability is that a band "has been the subject of multiple non-trivial published works whose source is independent from the musician/ensemble itself and reliable." So, what the article really needs is a couple of citations that show that JGB has been written about, outside of online discussion forums. I'm pretty sure that I've actually seen articles about JGB in Relix magazine, and I'm guessing that there have been articles or reviews in the San Francisco Chronicle or another California publication, but at the moment I can't find anything. So, if anyone can find a reference and add it to the article, that would be great. -- Mudwater 20:34, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
After looking around some more, I was able to find a couple of references on the Internet, and I've added them to the article. I think that helps establish the notability of JGB. The article could still use a lot of help though, so I'm leaving it on the list of articles needing expansion. -- Mudwater 13:23, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Pulling together
I believe that as a wikiproject we really need to pull together to accomplish our goals. This is especially true for us, considering we only have about seven participants at this time. Perhaps we should designate specific articles to collaborate upon at the same time? Any other ideas on how to further our project? AngulaR 05:28, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Rating articles
- Would it help at all to begin classifying our articles in terms of importance and quality, like other Wikiprojects do? Iknowyourider (t c) 05:29, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
-
- For that matter, are "our" articles even consistently tagged with the WP:JB template on their talk pages? A random sampling of articles from "bands and musicians needing expansion" revealed that about half didn't have such a tag. Should I just start tagging talk pages all willy-nilly? Iknowyourider (t c) 05:35, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
- As an experiment with the idea of classifying our articles... On a duplicate copy I made inside my userspace, I took the current talk page template and extended it to support articles being tagged with a class and an importance. Class describes the quality of the article; see the assessment scale here. Importance describes the (you guessed it) importance of the article -- but importance is relative within the specific wikiproject. We'd have to devise an importance scale specific to our project, like the one at Wikiproject Molecular and Cellular Biology importance scale. I started making one based on the WP:MCB scale, but it's past 3am local time, I'm tired, and the creation of such a scale should be a group effort anyway. So please, take a look at some example inclusions of my proposed template and tell me whether or not you like this idea. If we do want to move forward with this, we should finish the importance scale, and (if we have consensus) move this stuff out of my sandbox and into production. Any and all thoughts appreciated. Iknowyourider (t c) 07:09, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
I'm not a member of WikiProject Jam bands, but I'll chime in anyway. I would vote against rating articles on importance. I don't see a big value in it, and it's really subjective anyway. If we were talking about movies, I think most people would agree that, say, Citizen Kane is more important than Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, but, so what? That's even more true for jam bands, where it's more subjective and there are fewer of them. Also, I don't think it would be particularly positive or welcoming to tell someone that a band they really like is of low importance. In the area of article quality, I guess that could possibly be helpful in motivating people to improve articles, or in showing less experienced editors what better articles look like, especially if the WikiProject has clearly defined ideas about what a high quality jam band article would be like. My own feeling about other projects' quality scales is that they have too high a standard for getting from "stub" to "start". Just my two cents. — Mudwater 03:47, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] AOD
The AOD pages needs some serious reworking I tagged it as a POV issue Seth slackware 16:10, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Happy August 1st!
Today we celebrate the birth of Jerry Garcia, who, with the Grateful Dead, helped found a musical genre we enjoy to this day! Although he is no longer alive today, he certainly continues in spirit. ăngulaR 20:13, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Inactive?
A user has marked WP:JAM as being possibly inactive. I know that this certainly isn't the most active WikiProject... Are members actively contributing, even a little? Do we want to try something to revitalize the project, maybe like having monthly article improvement drives? Iknowyourider (t c) 14:48, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Article assessment
If you want to have an article about a jam band or musician rated on the quality scale by WikiProject Musicians, you can post a request at Wikipedia:WikiProject Musicians/Assessment#Requests for assessment. — Mudwater 03:11, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] AfD of TMWSIY
I don't know if anyone's active around here, either, but I wanted to let you know that The Man Who Stepped into Yesterday -- one of Phish's early, unreleased albums -- is up for deletion here. Feel free to weigh in. — MusicMaker5376 15:34, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Grateful Dead discussions
Here are two current discussions about the Grateful Dead. If you have an opinion on these subjects, please go to the links and add your comments there. Thanks.
- Was Bruce Hornsby an official member of the Grateful Dead? If not, he should be listed in the "Related articles" section of the Grateful Dead navigation box, not in the list of band members. Discussion at Template talk:GratefulDead#bruce hornsby.
- Should the Grateful Dead's studio and "current" live albums be listed separately in the GD discography? Or should they be listed together, because, as it says in the discography, "More so than most bands, the Grateful Dead frequently released live albums that filled the role of conventional studio albums, in that they were recently recorded and often contained newly-written material not on any studio album. An integral part of the contemporaneous evolution of the band..." Discussion at Talk:Grateful Dead discography#Studio and current live albums. — Mudwater (Talk) 00:58, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
