Statistics

We need a statistics box showing articles by class and priority. --Meno25 02:03, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

I added the box but it will need continuous updating. --Meno25 20:50, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
Is it possible to make a bot to automatically update the article statistics every once in a while?
--Yitzhak1995 02:52, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

There is currently a bot doing the job which is Mathbot operated by Oleg Alexandrovat at Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Egypt articles by quality statistics. All what we have to do is to copy the code of the previous page and paste it here. The statistics are updated every day at about 11:30 AM Cairo Local Time. --Meno25 03:11, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Simply marvelous! --Yitzhak1995 04:03, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Done. I transcluded the statistics box onto the page which means that the box will be updated automatically from now on without any manual edits. --Meno25 19:44, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

Importance scale

The importance scale is not showing up on the banner. Can someone fix this? I don't know how. Egyegy

What do you mean? I checked it and it is fine. Only the numbers are not updated. --Meno25 03:12, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
I'm guessing that he's talking about the banner, which lists the quality (fa, A, ga, etc.) but doesn't list the importance (top, high, mid, low, none). Some banners that I've seen list both and it might be helpful to add it in.
--Yitzhak1995 04:06, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, that's what I meant. See like the ethnic group banner at Egyptians has a place where you can list importance and it would show up on the banner. It would be nice to have so that Top and High importance articles can be spotted easily and would be the priority. Egyegy 08:15, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Done. Badbilltucker did the job. --Meno25 22:14, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. Egyegy 23:51, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

Help on article

Mahmoud Shokry, first Egyptian chief of staff of the Egyptian Army --- can anyone more knowledgeable here help w/this article? Clearly notable, but there's an open AfD on it and it needs more sources. Could only find one source so far, which I added already. (I am having trouble finding anything in Arabic either because the results are swamped with other people of the same name. The fact that I'm awful at Arabic doesn't help either). Thanks! cab 03:27, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

The result of the nomination was withdrawn by nominator. --Meno25 04:02, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

Scope

There appears to be some imprecise wording in the "Scope" section of WikiProject Egypt. Should our scope be: A) All articles in Category:Egypt OR B) All articles in Category:Egypt that are not about Ancient Egypt or Ancient Egyptian religion?

(I personally think the second makes more sense. It seems that at present, however, we are covering everything in Category:Egypt while focusing on what isn't covered by the other two.)

--Yitzhak1995 22:21, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

A more specific issue I'm bumping into is whether we include articles that have a broad Middle East context, or they need some special connection to Egypt, or must be specifically Egyptian. For example, much of Egyptian cuisine, such as falafel and baklava, is common across the Arab East. Any thoughts on these two issues?
--Yitzhak1995 08:11, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
I think we should try to stay within an Egypt-sope as much as possible. In this case, falafel should definitely be included. Baklava maybe or maybe not, I'm not sure. I don't think it's that popular in Egypt. The interesting thing is that there is similar pastry called Basboussa which is a much more popular Egyptian desert and is more specific to Egypt. We don't have an article on it yet. Egyegy 19:27, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
PS: Someone recently created Egyptian cuisine stub. Egyegy 19:41, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

Although WikiProject Ancient Egypt started on August 24, 2004 and WikiProject Egyptian Religion started on July 26, 2006, yet both projects are daughter projects of WikiProject Egypt in other words every article within the scope of any project of the two is within the scope of WikiProject Egypt but not vice versa. However, since our project started only on December 26, 2006, so, we should concentrate as a start on the articles not covered by the other two projects. --Meno25 19:57, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

I think Meno put it really well here. I would add that any major articles about ancient Egypt that cover broad topics should fall within this project's immediate scope. This includes e.g. Ancient Egypt, Pyramids of Giza, Egyptian language, though there is no rush to include specialized articles or esoteric topics like Ankh-af-na-khonsu, the Four sons of Horus or KV20. Happy New Year to all. — [zɪʔɾɪdəʰ] · 19:49, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

Egyptian identification card controversy

Dear Group,

I note we have been added to the project recently, and wanted to ask for help and advice in the continued efforts to develop Egyptian identification card controversy to be a really good article. Thank-you for your assistance.

Yours sincerely, Matarael 16:17, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

I reviewed the article and found some inaccuracies. You may read the details at Talk:Egyptian identification card controversy/Comments. The article needs just some more little work to be a good article. --Meno25 01:32, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
Dear Meno25,
Thank-you for your excellent suggestions, I have incorporated them personally; I look forward to either a further list of tasks which require action, or a change in rating.
Yours sincerely,
Matarael 12:35, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

Khalil Kalfat

This article about a literary translator of Egypt was deleted due to lack of sources. The original creator came back after the closing of the AfD to dispute the deletion, and gave a list of a five newspaper articles in Arabic and French, some of which qualify as non-trivial coverage; however, he has not yet returned to provide further comment on the deletion review or offer to improve the article so it won't again be mistaken for a non-notable person. If anyone has time/interest to develop this article, please comment on Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2006 December 31#Khalil Kalfat. I will try to do a more thorough job in the future of tagging these so they show up at Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Egypt; didn't know his nationality until after the debate had already closed. Thanks! cab 04:02, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

Done. The subject of the article is notable. We could create a user subpage for it until it is well written then move it to the Main name space. --Meno25 23:43, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

Portal:Egypt

We now need to create a portal for Egypt. We have 1 FA article, 1 A-Class article and 3 GA articles. --Meno25 05:47, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

The portal was created at Portal:Egypt. --Meno25 07:45, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

Rabeh Lotfy Gomaa

Could someone please take a look at Rabeh Lotfy Gomaa which is currently nominated for deletion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Rabeh Lotfy Gomaa? The subject might be notable if the content can be verified, but I am not even sure the article is even using the standard spelling of his name. --Metropolitan90 00:58, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

Mustafa Metwalli

The article Mustafa Metwalli is being considered for deletion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mustafa Metwalli. If someone could improve this stub with sources, or confirm that this actor is indeed non-notable, it would be helpful. Bucketsofg 21:05, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

Cinema of Egypt

Hi, I'd like all WP Egypt members to help place the {{CinemaofEgypt}} templates wherever needed. They should be placed at the bottom of articles on Egyptian films, actors, directors, producers, etc. Below is a preview of the template.

Bilateral relations discussion

I would like to invite you all to participate in a discussion at this thread regarding bilateral relations between two countries. All articles related to foreign relations between countries are now under the scope of WikiProject Foreign relations, a newly created project. We hope that the discussion will result in a more clean and organized way of explaining such relationships. Thank you. Ed ¿Cómo estás? 18:02, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

A new member

I've recently joined the project, I would like to participate in making better Egyptian articles, and creating those which do not exist yet. Before joining the project I've created two stub articles, Ahmed Ezz and Safwat El-Sherif. They're my first articles on wikipedia, and I'm having problems with Citing Sources, it seems to me that I am unable to fully understand the concept.

I can use a little introduction here from members, about how to contribute to the project and my responsibilities and priorities...etc.

Thanks. ñÅñÑüTalk 04:18, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

Welcome to the 'pedia, Nour! Citing sources is one of the main purposes of this project. All content in Wikipedia must be verifiable and attributable. You need to cite secondary sources to verify the information. What are secondary sources you say? Such sources must be reliable, and independent of the subject.
The "secondary sources" in the criterion include reliable published works in all forms, such as newspaper articles, books, and television documentaries except for the following:
Press releases; autobiographies; advertising for the company, corporation, organization, or group; and other works where the company, corporation, organization, or group talks about itself — whether published by the company, corporation, organization, or group itself, or re-printed by other people. Self-published material or published at the direction of the subject of the article would be a primary source and falls under a different policy.
Your responsibilities as a member of the project are to improve the existing articles, improve Wikipedia's coverage on Egyptian topics by creating new articles, and patrolling articles for maintenance and eliminating bias. I think what the project needs the most are GAs and FAs, but these aren't easy to get at all.
Leave me a message in my talk page if you ever need my help. Happy editing! Anas talk? 10:49, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Egypt

I've just added a link to Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Egypt on the project's main page. Please, keep an eye on it and list AFD discussions that are Egypt-related. — Zerida 19:48, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

Egyptian Revolution of 1919

Just a heads up that I created an article for this important event in Egyptian history, but it's only a start. Please feel free to expand and improve, as will I when I am finished with another article I'm working on at the moment. — Zerida 00:55, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
