This apparently happened on January 1, 1957. Since the pre-renumbering source I have is from 1955, some of these changes may have appened before then.

  • SR-1: replaced SR-37 and became SR-38 between Opelika and Anniston
  • SR-2: swapped with SR-20 west of Florence-Tuscumbia
  • SR-3: replaced SR-12 and became SR-59 south of Stapleton
  • SR-4: moved to new route and became SR-118 between Hamilton and Jasper
  • SR-5: became SR-13 south of Thomasville; swapped with SR-195 between Jasper and Haleyville; became SR-13 north of Phil Campbell
  • SR-9: became SR-15 and replaced SR-15 and SR-98 south of Brantley
  • SR-11: became SR-21 south of Monroeville, SR-41 from Monroeville to Camden, SR-28 from Camden to west of Snow Hill, and SR-21 north of west of Snow Hill
    • Eliminated because of US-11
  • SR-12: replaced SR-124 and SR-44 and became SR-16, SR-3, and SR-15 west of Andalusia; replaced SR-15 and SR-52 and became SR-52 between Opp and Dothan
  • SR-13: replaced SR-5 south of Thomasville; replaced SR-40 and became SR-69 between Linden and Tuscaloosa; moved to new route and became SR-171 between Bankston and Phil Campbell; replaced SR-5 north of Phil Campbell
    • Done in part to match US-43
  • SR-14: replaced SR-40 west of Eutaw; replaced SR-41 between Eutaw and Marion; replaced SR-43 between Marion and Selma
  • SR-15: became SR-87, SR-12, and SR-9 and replaced SR-9 and SR-12 south of Troy
  • SR-16: replaced SR-12 west of Mobile
  • SR-17: replaced SR-34 and became SR-157 north of Florence
  • SR-19: replaced SR-172 north of Vina
  • SR-20: swapped with SR-2 west of Florence-Tuscumbia
  • SR-21: replaced SR-209 south of Montgomery; replaced SR-11 north of Montgomery
    • Former SR-21: became SR-25
  • SR-22: replaced SR-63 east of Alexander City
  • SR-23: became SR-25 north of Ashville
    • Note: SR-23 is not on the 1957 map at all; this is probably an error.
  • SR-25: replaced SR-99 south of Greensboro; replaced SR-92 from Greensboro to Centreville; replaced SR-21 and SR-177 and became SR-53 between Vincent and Ashville; replaced SR-23 and SR-62 and became SR-53 north of Ashville
    • Done in part to match US-411
  • SR-28: replaced SR-132 west of Linden; new route between Moscow and Linden; replaced SR-11 between Camden and Snow Hill
  • SR-29: unless another one was created, the number was eliminated by 1952 by an extension of SR-17
    • Not used because of US-29
  • SR-30: became SR-51 and replaced SR-130 west of Louisville
  • SR-31: unless another one was created, the number was eliminated by 1946 by being renumbered to SR-112, probably because it crossed US-31
    • Not used because of US-31
  • SR-32: replaced SR-71
    • Former SR-32: became SR-75 and SR-79
  • SR-33: replaced SR-36
    • Former SR-33: became SR-36
  • SR-34: replaced part of SR-48
    • Former SR-34: became SR-17
  • SR-36: replaced SR-33
    • Former SR-36: became SR-33
  • SR-37: became SR-1 north of Opelika
  • SR-38: replaced SR-91 and part of SR-1
    • Former SR-38: became SR-79 and SR-53
  • SR-40: not reused immediately
    • Former SR-40: became SR-14 and SR-13
  • SR-41: replaced SR-93, SR-11, and SR-43
    • Former SR-41: became SR-14
  • SR-42: replaced SR-89
  • SR-43: became SR-41 and SR-14
    • Eliminated because of US-43
  • SR-44: not reused immediately
    • Former SR-44: became SR-12
  • SR-45: became SR-143
    • Eliminated because of US-45
  • SR-49: replaced CR-49 south of Lineville
