[edit] What is Persondata?

One of the first things you may think about when stumbling across this page is 'What is Persondata?' Well, you can see Wikipedia:Persondata for in-depth explanations, but Persondata is basically metadata which is added to the bottom of biographical articles. It's important for Wikipedia maintenance and the possibility of a Wikipedia comprehensive CD-ROM. As of May 8, 2008, the German Wikipedia has over 188,000 articles tagged with Persondata - we have approximately 21,000 articles with persondata.

Let's see if we can beat the German language Wikipedia by 2010.

Important: To view Persondata, you must tinker with your account settings:

  1. Go to Special:Mypage/monobook.css (replace 'monobook' with the skin you are using - most people are using monobook as the default)
  2. Copy-paste the following into your monobook.css: "table.persondata {display:table;}" (without the quotes), or, if you are using Internet Explorer, copy and paste this variation instead: "table.persondata {display:block;}" (without the quotes).
  3. Save the page.
  4. Now, bypass your browser's cache. This can be achieved in Internet Explorer by pressing Ctrl+F5. See Wikipedia:Bypass your cache for more information and instructions for other browsers.

[edit] News

18 December 2007: A list of biographies has been constructed, and can be found at /List of biographies. Be aware that this list includes articles which already have persondata, and also biographical articles about groups of people (e.g. bands) which should not be given persondata.

[edit] Goals

  • To tag every biography with persondata (see Wikipedia:Persondata).
    • To make adding Persondata to a biography as commonplace as adding an infobox.
    • To ensure that persondata is verified and maintained.

[edit] Scope

This project covers every biography on Wikipedia.

[edit] Guidelines

Main article: Wikipedia:Persondata

The persondata template should be appended to each article between the end of the main body and the start of the categories (or, if present, before the DEFAULTSORT template). The template fields should be filled in where they apply. Where they do not, the field should be left blank, but not deleted. For example, in the case of a living person:

The name entries take the form Surname, Forename(s), Title. If more than one name is being listed (in the ALTERNATIVE NAMES field) they should be separated by a semi-colon. The wikilinks in the fields are not mandatory, but may perform a useful purpose in the future.
