Wikipedia:WikiProject MusicBrainz
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Some Wikipedians have formed a project to better organize information in articles related to MusicBrainz. This page and its subpages contain their suggestions; it is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians. If you would like to help, please inquire on the talk page and see the to-do list there.
For more information on WikiProjects, please see Wikipedia:WikiProjects and Wikipedia:WikiProject best practices.

[edit] Scope
The goal of this project is to link each artist in the MusicBrainz database to Wikipedia and vice versa. For example: Weezer has relationship with Wikipedia and our Weezer page has a link to the corresponding information on MusicBrainz.
[edit] Parentage
This wikiproject is the malformed child of at least WikiProject Music and no one else claims responsibility. The following WikiProjects could also be considered parents:

[edit] Goals
- Link every artist and album Wikipedia Page to its counterpart on MusicBrainz.
- Link every MusicBrainz artist and album that has a wikipedia page to the appropriate Wikipedia page.
[edit] Projects
[edit] Tasks
- Add MusicBrainz links! See the "Templates" section for how to do it. You may as well start by looking for artists/releases that you have a personal interest in, or alternatively by checking that various well-known artists have MB links.
[edit] Adopt an article
Similar to the Collaboration of the week, but on a smaller scale, you might want to "adopt" an article. This would involve doing the research, writing, and picture-taking (if possible) for either a non-existent article or a stub. Of course, everyone else can still edit an adopted article, and you can work on other things too, but the idea is to find a focus for a while, to try and build up the number of quality articles the Project has produced.

[edit] Templates
- {{MusicBrainz artist}}
- {{MusicBrainz release}}
- The id parameter now goes from id1, id2 … id10.
- {{MusicBrainz track}}
- {{MusicBrainz label}}
All the templates use the same syntax:
{{MusicBrainz artist|id=31e7b30b-f960-408f-908b-c8e277308eab|name=Susumu Hirasawa}}
{{MusicBrainz release|id=5e06ebf6-f5c2-42ef-8b52-2adfc304b2cc|name=Paranoia Agent Original Soundtrack}}
{{MusicBrainz track|id=5bcf21f3-41bb-49b0-a290-6b0eb468b20c|name=Encyclopedia}}
{{MusicBrainz label|id=7e461015-9826-471d-8287-2fbe8903887c|name=GO' Danish Folk Music}}
- Susumu Hirasawa discography at MusicBrainz
- Paranoia Agent Original Soundtrack at MusicBrainz
- "Encyclopedia" at MusicBrainz
- GO' Danish Folk Music at MusicBrainz
There is also a wikilink template:
- {{MusicBrainz wiki}}
{{MusicBrainz wiki|WikiPedia}}
{{MusicBrainz wiki|MusicBrainz}}
There are also userboxes:
| {{User:UBX/MusicBrainz}} |
|
||
| {{User WikiProject MusicBrainz}} ↑Project members are encouraged to use this one.→ |
Template:User WikiProject MusicBrainz |
And here is the project notice to be put on talk pages (mostly on templates and MB related articles (all 4 or 5 of em):
- {{mbproj}}
Tagging focus:
- {{MBfocus}}
[edit] Tools (useful WKP searches)
Use these searches to help find "raw" links out from WP to MusicBrainz:
Ideally it would be nice if all of these used the templates instead. Of course for user pages, talk pages, it's less important. But perhaps if you see main articles appearing in those search results, you could convert them to use the templates instead.
Here are some quick links to find pages that make use of our lovely MusicBrainz link templates:
- Pages using "MusicBrainz artist" template
- Pages using "MusicBrainz release" template
- Pages using "MusicBrainz track" template
- Pages using "MusicBrainz label" template

[edit] WikiProject Deletion sorting
Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting is a new effort that attempts to classify various articles nominated for votes for deletion by major categories. The MusicBrainz-related articles at VFD are listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/MusicBrainz.
