Welcome to WikiProject Dubai, a collaborative effort to improve the English Wikipedia's coverage of the emirate of Dubai and the maintenance and organisation of articles on this topic. This page and its subpages contain suggestions and various resources; it is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of Wikipedians interested in the topic. [edit] Goals
This WikiProject aims:
- To improve the English Wikipedia's coverage of Dubai by creating, expanding, and maintaining related articles, templates, images and categories.
- To provide guidelines and recommendations for articles related to Dubai.
- To serve as a point of discussion for issues related to Dubai in general in the English Wikipedia.

- January 13, 2008 - Temporary page for this WikiProject created.
- January 15, 2008 - Official project banner, {{WikiProject Dubai}}, is established.
- January 25, 2008 - {{User WikiProject Dubai}} is officially adopted as the WikiProject member userbox. It is followed by the creation of a second userbox, {{User WikiProject Dubai2}}.
- January 26, 2008 - Project moved to official Wikipedia space.

[edit] Cartography
Most maps related to Dubai are currently rasterized images (jpegs, pngs). I am currently in the process of converting these maps to SVG, in line with WP:MAPS. These maps will provide greater precision as well as scalability and reusability. Editors that are interested in developing and/or testing SVG-based Dubai maps can ping me on my talk page. Thanks! - The attached image is an unmarked city-level map of Dubai. SVG maps are fully scalable and editable; the goal is to ensure that accurate SVG maps exist for each locality-based article. This can be achieved by reusing elements from this map and making modifications, where necessary. I will be uploading two other maps sometime soon — one with all residential areas color-coded and identified and one for the locality of Deira. AreJay (talk) 04:13, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

The central category for this WikiProject is Category:Dubai. The main category and its associated subcategories are tagged with {{Dubai category}}. Please note that both main category is itself a subcategory of Category:Cities in the United Arab Emirates and Category:Emirates of the United Arab Emirates, which contain some other categories that are out of scope of this project.
The major category, Category:Dubai, should be reserved for very general articles about Dubai that cannot be further categorized into any of the below listed ones. Please note that Dubai-related articles should not be overcategorized; if one category, such as Category:Buildings and structures in Dubai, is already present on a page, then the more general Category:Dubai should not be added. The former category already indicates that an article is related to Dubai.

Please consider adding these articles to your watchlist, to help in reverting the ongoing vandalism which is certain to resume once semi-protection expires. Even during the period of semi-protection, some articles continue to be vandalized by recently registered accounts. Consider reporting users who chronically vandalize articles to Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism.
If you find any other articles within the scope of this project which are being heavily vandalized (as a rough standard, over 10 vandals per day, or continual vandalism for several days such that the last 50+ edits are all vandalism and reverts, or 10+ vandalism / revert edits in 30 minutes), please report them at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection and add them to the list above.
