Whoopi is a short-lived television situation comedy, starring Whoopi Goldberg as "Mavis Rae", a member of the former one-hit wonder group "The Ebony Blackbirds." The series revolved around the events and people at her hotel, the Lamont Hotel, in New York City. The show was not well-received among some political conservatives since some of its dialogue and situations satirized President George W. Bush and criticized his policies during the American invasion of Iraq. The show aired at 8:00 PM ET, on Tuesdays starting September 9, 2003, on NBC; it went off the air in April 2004.
