"Wholy Holy" is a 1971 song written by Al Cleveland, Renaldo Benson and Marvin Gaye and issued by Marvin as the eighth track on his landmark album, What's Going On. Staying with the subject of love bringing Jesus into the theme, the song lyrically followed the same path of the Benson/Cleveland/Gaye compositions "What's Going On" and "Save the Children" while musically was a much more solemn production than the previous tune and featured Gaye on lead and background vocals. The song would be later covered by soul-gospel greats Aretha Franklin, who sung the song on her Amazing Grace live album and Mavis Staples, who famously covered it during an episode of The Cosby Show.
