West Meon railway station[2] was an intermediate station on the Meon Valley line which ran from Alton to Fareham during the first half of the 20th century. Opened on 1 June 1903, it formed part of a comprehensive set of transport links serving the village.[3] A particularly difficult line to construct(It cost the equivalent of 27 million GBP[4]) One of its most dramatic feature was the long tunnel approaching the station running over the A272.
Never a busy station;[5]it was finally closed on 5 February 1955. All that remains[6] to show the station was ever there is an Ordnance Survey Bench Mark.[7]
