West Coast is a Housing and Development Board (HDB) town estate in Singapore. The HDB estate was built on part of the reclaimed land. As of 2008, the town is under West Coast Town Council, and it is part of Clementi. A shopping centre named Ginza Plaza was located here, but was closed in 2007 for upgrading and will be completed by 2009, which will be renamed as West Coast Plaza. Currently, all HDB prenincts in West Coast are under Lift Upgrading Programme and IUP-Plus Upgrading Programme.

Before any development was built, West Coast is mostly a swamp, and the coastline was along the present day West Coast Road. There were some kampungs settled along the shorelines. But when the Singapore Government decides to develop this area, the swamp was eventually reclaimed.
[edit] Urban Geography
West Coast is not actually located on the western area of Singapore. It is actually located in the South-Western part of Singapore, with Clementi to the north, Teban Gardens and Pandan Gardens to the west, Pasir Panjang to the east, and the sea to the south.
West Coast, as once a swamp like any other coasts of Singapore in the past. For now, HDB estates, private houses, industry factories dorminates the area. West Coast HDB estate was completed in the 1980s, and it was a "mixed" town (Consisting of 3, 4, 5 & Exclusive Rooms Flats). In the heart of the town, there is a shopping mall named Ginza Plaza, which since had been closed due to poor business, as well as a Wet Market/Food Centre. The Wet Market/Hawker Centre is currently being proposed for HUP (Hawker Upgrading Programme). Nearby, there is a Sheng Siong Supermarket. One interesting fact about this supermarket is that there are 2 stories and it is one of the very few supermarkets in Singapore to be equipped with Travellators.

The nearest station to West Coast is Clementi MRT Station, which can be accessed by bus services 189, 282, 78, or 175. In 2010, The Circle Line West Coast MRT Station, CC25, will be opened, Despite the name, the station is located far away from the actual town of West Coast.

West Coast has a community centre for sports, and the Clementi Stadium and West Coast Recreation Centre are located near West Coast Road and can be seen from the Ayer Rajah Expressway. West Coast Park and Clementi Woods are situated at walkable distance from West Coast.
