Worldwide Wen Tianxiang Ancestors Meetup
My name is Man Chiuming (Wen Zhaoming 文昭明). My ancestral hometown is Hoksan (He Shan 鶴山) County in the province of Guangdong. Currently residing in the US.
The older generation of my relatives always mentioned that we were descended from Wen Tianxiang. But so far, I am unable to piece together a geneology. Though Wen is a relatively rare Chinese surname I guess everyone surnamed Wen would claim ancestry.
It would be interesting for all surnamed "Wen" (Man in Cantonese) to post in this TALK link and discover our family roots together.
My name is Han-Chi Man (or Wen for you Mainlanders) and my village is San Tin (Wen Ping Chuen) according to my village legend. During the fall of the last Southern Song dynasty, which was in Hong Kong, Wen Tianxiang was one of those few who voluntered to stall the Mongols to buy time for the infant emperor to escape (which sadly they failed). After Wen Tianxiang was executed his families (or relatives) settled down in the village I came from during the beginning of Yuan Dynasty from then on the Man families has stopped involving with politics and lived peacefully as villagers. However, there is a tradition in my village, when someone ask which village I came from, I must always say "My village is a descendant of Wen Tianxiang", also whenever I met someone with the same surname like me, we must address them as "one of the family" for example calling then either "older" or "younger" cousins.

In Feb 2005, I was in HK for a month visiting friends and relatives and I visited the Tai Fu Tai Mansion and the Man Lun Fun Ancestral Hall. Since I made the trip to San Tin on my own, I was the only one left when the bus tours left. I mentioned to the nice ladies working there that I was also named "Man", and they treated me like part of the family.
I was given a private tour and even allowed to burn some incense at the Ancestral Hall.
I plan on going to Beijing later this year to study Mandarin, and look forward to visiting the Wen Tianxiang Temple there.
