Does anyone know if this page supports wiki/html/or any markup? — xaosflux Talk 15:24, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

I believe that it supports html, but don't quote me on that. alphaChimp laudare 11:51, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
Given that my most recent update uses a variety of wikitext and images, and that it displayed properly with a test account creation, it's probably safe to say that this page supports most wikimarkup. :) Nihiltres{t.l} 15:28, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] What to include?

I've modelled this page after the French one to get in some more useful info for newbie registrants, but I want to make sure it doesn't become too messy while at the same time having a bunch of useful links in one spot after signup. What pages are the ones newly registered users look for or need the most? Here's the list of pages I find important to include:

  1. The introduction (perhaps the tutorial too) to give them a quick and easy introduction to searching and editing Wikipedia.
  2. The sandbox so they can test edits.
  3. Link to help page index.
  4. Link to policies and guidelines index and mention of some basic policies.
  5. Link to a simplified ruleset.
  6. Link explaining where to ask questions.
  7. Quick answers to the VFAQ (or a link). -- MacGyverMagic (talkcontribs) 12:26, 1 May 2007 (UTC).

This is far too much information and links that either no one is going to read or that is going to scare people away. In addition, whereas welcome messages on talk pages are given to people who have actually edited the encyclopedia, many accounts are created simply to have the preferences. Asking someone to read 9 policy pages is too much even for people gung-ho about editing Wikipedia and becoming integrated knowledgeable Wikipedians, and most people registering are not like that. —Centrxtalk • 15:52, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] ugly!

this is screwed up! I created this account and when i saw this page, the sidebar was way at the bottom left and almost everything else was gone! I had to reload the site! way to go screwing this up. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ifoughtme (talkcontribs) 01:58, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

While this user may not have put it nicely, it is true. I created an account and the screen was completely screwed up. I'll create another and upload a screen shot. - auburnpilot talk 03:23, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
Take a look for yourselves. I highly suggest unblocking that user: Image:AUScreenshot.jpg. Allalongtheriver 03:27, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
I just created an account, and yes something is wrong. But no, this user isn't getting unblocked. John Reaves (talk) 03:34, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
And people wonder why admins are so hated. The fact you extended this user's block is astonishing. - auburnpilot talk 03:41, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
It's not exactly the first time a block has been extended because someone called an admin a dumbass. John Reaves (talk) 03:45, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

I removed the div statements. It works now, though it does not look as fancy. —Centrxtalk • 03:52, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Larger welcome again

I've reverted back to a page that actually gives a potential editor some useful information and links directly to the user preferences. I'd like to see if this has any improvement on the behaviour of new editors for a few weeks or months before going back to a more basic message. Nick 22:35, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Closing div tag

{{editprotected}}

Please remove the 3rd closing div tag (</div>) at the very bottom, which is needless and apparently causes some problems. Thanks! Korg (talk) 02:35, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Fixed - It was messing with the navigation pane on the left side of the screen, when used as part of the interface (as opposed to just the code here). Mr.Z-man 05:09, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

That code produces the below (in the subsection). It looks like there are a couple of formatting problems. Would you fix them first please? Nihiltres{t.l} 17:56, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
