[edit] Logo use

Per Wikipedia:Non-free content, logos are generally discouraged in lists such as this (i.e. Wall-Mart, Oracle). But even if they were some how acceptable, you need to provide a fair use rationale for these copyrighted images on each individual image's page. Aboutmovies (talk) 10:51, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Duke Westminster.jpg

Image:Duke Westminster.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] Fair use images

Frankly, I'm tired of checking every image in the list. There are a ton of fair use images and they should all be removed ASAP. This is why nobody tries to put images on these sorts of lists. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 19:02, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Percentage of nation's GDP?

I'm not sure how useful it is to measure against their nation's GDP (or how accurately the list is following that measurement). Shouldn't they all be measured against the global GDP, giving an equivalent sense of wealth in relation to the world as a whole? Someone that represents 20% of the GDP of Brunei is far less wealthy than someone that represents 1% of the GDP of the US in most senses.
As for this list following that principle, doesn't Carlos Slim represent something like 5-6% of Mexico's GDP? That's substantially more than Gates' wealth ever was as a percentage of US GDP.
Last but not least, don't these lists constitute original research in almost every sense? Jun-Dai (talk) 00:58, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
I haven't really thought about that. This is more than just a rehash of the Forbes list, isn't it? It seems like it though. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 09:09, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Sources and use on Wikipedia

First, is the primary source for this the one list of adjusted wealth? if so, wouldn't this article constitute plagarism? Simply hyperlinking to our articles isn't enough. Second, Why are we citing ourselves by adding this to infoboxes, as in Henry Ford? Third, shouldn't that template attribute instead note that it's in year 2007 adjust dollars? ThuranX (talk) 23:43, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Anton, Jacob Fugger real #1 and #2

In 1546, Anton Fugger owned about 5 million guilders, which – according to the Neue Zürcher Zeitung – equals $ 1.1 trillion. His uncle, Jacob Fugger owned about half as much (c. 2.1 million guilders) by the time of his death, in 1525. Which means both Fuggers are actually #1 and #2 on this list. I suggest we update it. --Bender235 (talk) 02:32, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Inflation

Although the adjustment for inflation is mentioned on this page, it is not mentioned in the boxes that show up in the pages of the linked wealthy historical figures. In my opinion, to write, say, "300 billion dollars" instead of "300 billion inflation-adjusted 2007 dollars" is not just imprecise but incorrect and needs to be changed. If the person's wealth was held in the U.S., the natural interpretation would be in nominal dollars, and of course this would be a huge difference. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.232.199.56 (talk) 07:21, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Peak earnings or peak wealth?

The fourth column is titled, "Age when at peak of earnings, or in 2008 for living people". Are you sure that the column shouldn't be titled "Age when at peak wealth, or in 2008 for living people"? There is a very big difference between earnings and wealth. --JHP (talk) 06:13, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Let me also point out that the entries in that column don't match the column title. For example, Bill Gates, Paul Allen, and Larry Ellison are all living people. Therefore, according to the column title, they should have their 2008 age listed, rather than their age at peak of earnings (or wealth). However, the column appears to list their age at their peak wealth, rather than their age in 2008. --JHP (talk) 06:35, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] This entire article appears to be original research

This entire article seems to be original research, which is a violation of Wikipedia policy. I can't figure out what source is being used for the wealth of historical figures. What currency are you using to do inflation adjustments for early historical figures? How can you possibly justify mixing and matching percentage of GDP calculations with inflation adjustments? --JHP (talk) 06:35, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Don Simon Iturbi Patino.jpg

The image Image:Don Simon Iturbi Patino.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

Someone moved Bill Gates and they shouldn't have. He should be worth 100.00 B from the 90's. Move him back and give him 100 Billion —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.244.148.116 (talk) 18:26, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
