The Washington Semester is a semester-long residential program that partners with institutions around the world to bring college students to American University. It is housed at AU's Tenley Campus.
The program operates independently from, but in conjunction with, the other academic units. Each week, students spend three days on two seminar courses and two days on an internship that gives students a unique look at Washington, DC. Rather than lecture courses, the Washington Semester invites speakers from various sectors of a particular field to address the class, often from different perspectives.
It involves course work, research, seminars, and internships in government offices.
