Wakayama Domain

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Wakayama Domain (和歌山藩 Wakayama han?) was a han or Japanese feudal domain in Kii Province (present-day Wakayama Prefecture and southern Mie Prefecture), with income of 555,000 koku. The domain was also known as Kii Domain (紀伊藩?) or Kishu Domain (紀州藩?). The heads of the domain were Kishu-Tokugawa clan, one of Gosanke. The domain was founded by Tokugawa Yorinobu, tenth son of shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu, when he moved from Sunpu Domain in Suruga Province to Kii Province.
