Sunpu Domain
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Sunpu Domain (駿府藩 Sunpu han?) was a han or Japanese feudal domain that existed briefly during the early Edo period and early Meiji era in what is today the city of Shizuoka in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. In 1869 the domain was renamed Shizuoka Domain (静岡藩?).
The domain was established in 1609 by Tokugawa Ieyasu's tenth son Yorinobu. It was disbanded in 1619 when Yorinobu moved to Wakayama to found the Kishu Domain. In 1624 Tokugawa Hidetada's third son Tadanaga reestablished the domain when he moved from Kai Province. After Iemitsu, Tadanaga's brother, became shogun, the domain came under the direct administration of the shogunate.
The domain also existed from 1868 to 1871 with income of 700,000 koku. It was ruled by the former Tokugawa shogunal family.
