[edit] Playing career
[edit] Bournemouth
He joined Bournemouth around February 2000, while playing for Bashley he was spotted by ex-Liverpool player Jimmy Case who organized a trial match for him at Bournemouth , he then trained with them over the Christmas holidays and signed for them in February [2]. Bournemouth paid Bashley a transfer fee of around £5,000. [3]
[edit] Burnley
He transferred to Burnley in the summer of 2005 as a Bosman signing, joining on a 3 year deal from Bournemouth along with team-mate Garreth O'Connor. A third A.F.C. Bournemouth player, John Spicer also transferred to Burnley shortly afterwards. He was signed because Steve Cotterill had been impressed with his performance when Burnley played Bournemouth in an FA Cup match, he then kept tabs on the player until the end of the season[1]. During the 2005-06 season he made a total of 36 appearances for the club, with around half of those as a sub. He was a first team regular at the start of the season when the club had a smaller squad but by the end of the season featured more often as a substitute, partially due to the signing of ex-Premiership player Alan Mahon. However, after starting the 2006-07 season again as a substitute, his ability to deliver crosses from the right-wing saw him recalled to the starting line-up with such success that he ended as Burnley's player of the season for 2006-07. He started the 2007-08 season as a first team regular on the right-wing and produced some impressive displays.
[edit] Playing style
Although a skilful crosser of the ball, his strength as a winger is his appetite for going past full-backs. He lists his main assets as a footballer as his pace and eagerness to learn [2]. Being only 5' 10" (1.78m) [1] he maintains a low centre of gravity thus being able to turn on the ball quickly, similar to players such as Aaron Lennon and Shaun Wright-Phillips.
