[edit] WASP etymology

I was wondering if it was worth mentioning the source for the name - clearly a play on White Anglo Saxon Protestant and I was of the understanding the band changed the meaning of the acronym to mean We Are 'Sexual Perverts. However, I could be wrong. (Emperor 21:45, 12 September 2006 (UTC)) GENRE,are you people sure that w.a.s.p. is heavy metal? i would consider wasp glam metal Lawless is supposed to have replied to a question about what it's an acronym for: -"We Ain't Sure, Pal" --Odd M. Nilsen 09:11, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

Seems to me W.A.S.P. is an abbreviation, not an acronym, though a lot would come down to whether there are periods between the letters and how the letters are actually pronounced (i.e., do people say "W-A-S-P" or "Wasp"?). See the discussion here: link title C d h (talk) 14:49, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Controversy section might be warranted

I assume few if any rock bands have done the type of things W.A.S.P. are described here to have done. (I mean, Ozzy Osbourne is "legendary", at least in my impression, for allegedly "merely" having bitten the head off a bat or whatever it was on stage.) The appalling acts are propably noteworthy enough to deserve special attention in the article. 62.16.241.235 18:33, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] New Template

In case anyone's interested, I've put together a W.A.S.P. template and added it to all the people and album pages. --Midx1004 15:41, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Redirect??

Anyone know why the page for Mike Duda redirects back here..? And how does one remove it?? --Midx1004 15:44, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

W.A.S.P. (band)W.A.S.P. — Is there another W.A.S.P. I don't know about to make this ambiguous? I can't see someone searching for W.A.S.P. looking for Wasp. —Halo 14:49, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

Since polling is not a substitute for discussion, please explain your reasons, taking into account Wikipedia's naming conventions.
  • Oppose. There are several acronyms of WASP listed on the dab page, so I think in this case it is useful to disambiguate the article title. PC78 17:33, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
  • Oppose, particularly per the White Anglo-Saxon Protestant usage. Dekimasuよ! 14:02, 29 September 2007 (UTC)
  • Oppose. When I hear the acronym "W.A.S.P," I think of "White Anglo-Saxon Protestant," as noted above by Dekimasu. I thus think that the disambiguation in the current title is necessary for people who aren't familiar with the fact that W.A.S.P. is also a band. -Severa (!!!) 10:27, 30 September 2007 (UTC)
  • Oppose There too many such acronyms for it not being a disambiguation page.--Victor falk 19:22, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
  • Oppose. "Protestant" has much more usage than a band that enjoyed moderate success in the 1980s. I wouldn't mind seeing the acronyms broken out to their own DAB page, though, since I feel that they can be hard to find when crowded out by the other entries. --Groggy Dice T | C 12:50, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] What's the problem in adding more genres?

It seems that everytime someone puts another genre related to W.A.S.P., it's instantly deleted and turns back to only Heavy Metal. C'mon, calling W.A.S.P. exclusively Heavy Metal is limiting the conception of their music and images! For instance, until Inside the Eletric Circus, W.A.S.P. was almost completely Hard Rock; their Heavier material came later.

It think the band fits perfectly in the Hard Rock and Shock Rock gentes. Still, I'm asking you because I won't change it if most people disagree with me. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.37.205.178 (talk) 22:06, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Objectivity

I understand that everybody editing this page will be big W.A.S.P. fans (hell, I'm one as well) but we should still stay objective. You can't write that The Crimon Idol was

voted by many of W.A.S.P. die-hard fans as the best material this great band have ever produced.

That belongs to fan-sites, and to the casual reader doesn't give a damn about what die-hard fans think. I hope you don't mind if I apply a few changes but felt I should leave a notice first. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gorwath (talkcontribs) 17:32, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

Someone should remove the following two lines as they are not encyclopedic and wiki is not a message board for the band. StereoDevil (talk) 22:07, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

"W.A.S.P. would like to apologize to the fans and promoters for any inconvenience caused by this fact."

"More information can be found on their myspace page www.myspace.com/wasp"

[edit] Movie

W.A.S.P. played themselves for a segment in a low budget movie in the 1980s. I can't remember the movie title, but the concept was that a computer genius hacker gets brought into a magical world and is challenged by an evil wizard type to get through a trap-filled magical labyrinth.

The love interest gets teleported by the evil wizard to a heavy metal concert. W.A.S.P. is the name on the stage, and Lawless is lewdly performing while she is tied up to a rack. He is wearing gauntlets, each with with half of a rotary saw blades. Anyone remember seeing this? Anyone know the name?
