Vistamar School

Vistamar School is a non-profit, private, co-ed college-prep high school in El Segundo in Los Angeles, California.

Vistamar School opened in September 2005, following almost four years of research, planning, fund raising, and personnel recruitment. The school has a 76,000 square foot facility at 737 Hawaii Street in El Segundo and has remodeled approximately half the space for student use. Enrollment in 2007-08 is about 140 students. Over the next few years, Vistamar will expand to an anticipated enrollment of 380 students in grades 9 through 12.

Vistamar offers a wide array of different courses to the student body.

Maths

• Algebra1- This is the first Math course offered to Freshmen.
• Advanced Algebra1- This is also offered to Freshmen, but it is a little bit more advanced to its counterpart, Algebra1.
• Geometry- Taken by most Freshmen or Sophomores.
• AlgebraII- A Sophomore or Junior course.
• Pre-Calculus- The school also offers an Honors Pre-Calculus course.
• Advanced Topics in Math

Humanities

This is the study of English and History.

• Contemporary World History-12

American Literature

• English- 12
• Introduction to Linguistics- 10
• Introduction to Economics-10
• Introduction to Forensics Speech and Debate-10

Languages

Vistamar has two language programs:

• Spanish- Offered in several levels: Spanish I, Spanish II, Spanish III, Spanish IV and Spanish for Native Speakers
• Mandarin Chinese- Level I, Level II,Level III and Level IV are available.

Sciences

• Modular Science I, II, and III is offered in a rotation between Chemistry, Physics and Biology and Physics for one trimester each.
• Advanced Topics in Science

Technology

• Computer Literacy one trimester long class
• Introduction to Computer programming

These are Artelectives that last one trimester

Year long classes are:

• Studio Art This course is offered to Juniors who show interest in the arts, but choose not to enroll in the AP class. It is a studio course in preparation for AP Studio Art.

In addition, the school has offered a photography course, has put on three school plays

• Blithe Spirit by Noel Coward
• Rumors by Neil Simon

and has an active school choir.
