The Virgin Balloon Flights started in 1987, by flying hot air balloons and are still flown in the famous red and white balloons with the famous Virgin Group logo on the emblazoned side of the balloon.

Virgin Balloon Flights also own and operate the largest passenger carrying balloon in the United Kingdom as well as the largest balloon fleet in the United Kingdom.

The company has 104 launch sites throughout the United Kingdom (including Crowborough, Shrewsbury and Castle Fraser), employs 15 pilots that perform the balloon flights and is affiliated to the following organisations:

As opposed to using chartered flights this company uses a voucher system, the vouchers acting as tickets of which there are 6 types listed below;

  • Sunrise
  • Bronze
  • Silver
  • Diamond (with binoculars, pen, keyring and dvd)
  • Adventure (with binoculars, pen, cap, flight bag, keyring and dvd)
  • Explorer (with binoculars, pen, cap, flight bag, keyring limited edition BLOC sunglasses and dvd)

Since 1997 Virgin Balloon Flights is a trading name for AirXcite Limited.

Its main headquarters is based in Telford, Shropshire.
