Please do not add any Musician Listings to this great artists page...Let his name stand alone..In memorium to him and his achievements...And DO NOT use it for SELF advertisement.

I fail to see how that is relavant. The point of Wikipedia is to connect one thing to another, therefore, it is more than appropriate to list other musicians. Also, Wikipedia is not a memorial or obituary, it is an encyclopedia. Please be more considerate of that. Sasquatcht|c 23:47, 21 October 2005 (UTC)
  > Can you please explain Ravi Shankar's sitar ...

Do you think that belongs on the Vilayat Khan page? Ravi had a bass string put on his sitar, he had a top gourd and an open jawari (bridge) (which makes the buzzing sound).

Yes, it does. Because the author intended to compare Ravi Shankar and Vilayat Khan's sitars, and only ends up giving a description of Vilayat Khan's. That is one-sided and leaves the reader curious. A description of Ravis sitar in this context would further illustrate the philosophical and playing differences of the two most important sitars of the 20th century.

[edit] Madhuvanti (and other ragas)

I added back some material about Vilayat’s approach to raga tradition. (An article about an ICM great is patronising and belittling without it.) The anonymous vandal’s lessons (Sanjh Saravli and Basant Mukhari hyperbole) are well taken, although of course he could have just edited it himself rather than put in AN ALL-CAPS CALL FOR ME TO EDIT IT right into the sentence. :P Madhuvanti I still think is Vilayat’s invention, however, but I don’t have much authority to call on. That other artists have also performed it is of course no argument one way or another, I never said Vilayat had a patent on it. (Does anyone know of an earlier document of Madhuvanti than Vilayat’s 78RPM?) Bossk-Office 20:37, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Jalsaghar

I believe Vilayat Khan composed/performed the music for Satyajit Ray's film Jalsaghar. This should be mentioned. Badagnani 00:40, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
