Vengaboys is a Pop Eurodance group who originated in The Netherlands. They where formed by two DJs (DJ Marsland and Delmundo) and four dancers (Kim, Denice, Robin, and Roy) touring in an old school bus. Later, it appeared that it was the new project of the Dutch DJs Wessel van Diepen & Dennis van den Driesschen. In 1997, the name Vengaboys was thought up during a recording session for Nakatomi, which a previous project of Wessel Van Diepen, where many times the Spanish word 'Venga' (come on) was repeated. As the letter V is pronounced similar to a B in Spanish, "Vengaboys" is pronounced as "Bengaboys". The creators behind Vengaboys were the composers Dennis van den Driesschen (DJ Danski) and Wessel van Diepen (Delmundo). They have members from Brazil, Hungary, Tobago, and Trinidad. They enjoyed a huge commercial success in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Some of the members have left the group and some have returned. Members Robin & Roy have been replaced by Yorick & Donny.

[edit] History
[edit] 1995-1997
In 1995, the Vengaboys started performing in Illegal House/Beach Parties. In 1997, their commercial success started with two smaller hits "Parada De Tettas" and "To Brazil". In the beginning, nobody knew who this mysterious new group was. There was a rumour about two DJs (DJ Danski and Delmundo) and four dancers (Kim, Denice, Robin, and Roy) touring in an old school bus. Later, it appeared that it was the new project of the Dutch DJs Wessel van Diepen & Dennis van den Driesschen. In 1997, the name Vengaboys was given to the band because although the band contains 2 men and 2 women, the women are actually transvestites. And Vengaboys is a Spanish slang word for an all male group. The creators behind Vengaboys were the composers Dennis van den Driesschen (DJ Danski) and Wessel van Diepen (Delmundo). The original band consisted of the dancers Kim, Denise, Roy and Robin. Later, however, Sean Donovan was to join as a dancer, to replace Roy, as Roy felt he couldn't take the touring. James Ozanne is the lead singer and dancer and attributed his camp dance moves to watching Boyzone.
[edit] 1997
In 1997 their single "Up & Down" scored a 30 on the list of 100 top tracks. This single was followed by many others, including "We Like To Party", "Boom Boom Boom Boom" and "We're Going to Ibiza", which was a #1 hit in the United Kingdom and The Netherlands. Their music could be classified as Eurobeat. They have sold more than 10 million singles & 5 million copies of the album Vengaboys worldwide.
[edit] 1999
In 1999 Robin was replaced by Yorick.
[edit] 2002
In 2002 Denice and Yorick left the band. They were replaced by Mark and Lilly.
[edit] 2004
Member Denise Van Rijswijk married Winston Post. Her full name changed to Denise Post Van Rijswijk. Also it seems that the last performance was given in 2004.
[edit] 2005
Denise Post Van Rijswijk gave birth to Jayden Winston Johannes on July 19, 2005.
[edit] 2007
The Vengaboys played at Loughborough Students Union for their end of term party on December 13, 2007. They performed a set of their greatest hits for approximately half an hour.
[edit] 2008
The Vengaboys toured small-medium club venues and a number of student union venues in the early part of 2008. Such venues included Potter row (The University of Edinburgh Students Union), Escapades (Darlington).
Despite a small number of lineup changes, Sasabone speaks enthusiastically about what she refers to as "a new lease of life" and even insists that she and singer/dancer Denice Post-van Rijswijk have no qualms about the name of the band. "It's okay, we're almost like boys anyway," she laughs. "Vengaboys was the name our producers Danski and Delmundo worked under before we joined them. We liked the name, so we decided to keep it. So no, there are no feminist hassles about being called boys."
Sasabone sums up the group's philosophy in the following terms: "To us, life is one big party. We want to keep partying all our lives!"
The group is performing at the Aberyswtyth May Ball, Hertfordshire University and Kent University Summer Ball, on 9th May, 23rd May and 24th May 2008 respectively. They are also performing at Lancaster University Graduation Ball on 23rd June 2008.
They are also performing at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (UMB) just outside of Oslo, Norway on the 30th of April.
The group was preforming in Bjugn on the half island Fosen on 1th of May.
They also performed at the University of Kent's Summer Ball 2008 on the 24th of May 2008.
The Vengaboys will perform alongside East 17 in Ireland on the 28th of June.
They tore it up at Kent Uni Summer Ball 2008 and were the highlight of the evening.
[edit] Other history
Never critically acclaimed, the group continued making records that were distinctly Eurobeat (the music video of "Kiss" even features one of the dancers from Para Para All Stars performing a Para Para dance), following in the footsteps of previous Dutch-Dance sensations 2 Unlimited. The ploy worked and by the beginning of the year 2000, the group had achieved four top 10 entries, including two number-one hits ("Boom Boom Boom Boom" and "We're Going to Ibiza"). The group's success continued throughout the beginning of the 21st century, with the The Platinum Album (their third album release) going top 10, spawning three big hits ("Kiss", "Shala Lala" and "Uncle John From Jamaica") and two other known tracks ("Cheekah Bow-Bow (That Computer Song)" which included their fifth cyber-member Cheekah, and the ballad "Forever As One," which gained more notoriety for its video, which was forbidden after the group violated copyright laws by using copyrighted pictures of them meeting pop group Westlife without permission). By mid-2001, after nearly ten top 10 hits, the group partly disappeared from the music world and went back to working on the club scene. Their American debut The Party Album peaked at #86 on the US Billboard 200 album sales chart. At the time, overall CD sales were at a highpoint in the USA, which played a role in the album going gold (500,000 units). This is significant as only a few European dance artists have attained similar success. The main single off their debut was "We Like To Party" which cracked the Top 30 of the Billboard Hot 100 and sold 405,000. More recently the band is famous for performing often sold-out gigs at student venues across the United Kingdom. Recent performances have taken place in such notable clubs as City Edinburgh, Rubix at University of Surrey and 53 degrees at University of Central Lancashire
