Talk:Vengaboys
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Dutch? I got the impression they were from all over the world. And since when were there ever six of them? Other sources give there as being only four, and this is backed up by a quick search on Google Images.
And I've always wondered why they're called "Vengaboys" considering that they're a mixed group. My first thought was that maybe "vengaboy" was a word with no direct connection to "boy", just as "talisman" isn't related to "man". Since then I heard on some television programme that they got their name from "venga" meaning "come" in Spanish or something, but didn't catch an explanation of the "boys" bit. Can anyone enlighten? -- Smjg 18:04, 7 Mar 2005 (UTC)

- See the Members section of the article. Wessel van Diepen, Dennis van den Driesschen, Denise van Rijswijk and Yorick Bakker are certainly all Dutch. I asume Robin Pors, Kim Sasabone, Roy Darman are too. So yes, they really are Dutch. What the section doesn't make clear is that Wessel and Dennis are the producers, the others are 'singers'. And yes there were four members, because Yorick replaced Robin (see the dates behind their names). I don't know where they got their name, so I can't help you with that. -- Sander 08:40, 8 Mar 2005 (UTC)

- I've tried to clarify this in the text - and updated it based on the references I found. There are some references on the web to some of the band members being of various nationailties, but all meeting in Europe, but it is not clear from what I've found who's who. I have no idea why Vengaboys. Scottkeir 10:52, 19 August 2005 (UTC)

- In official bio's four different nationalities were mentioned, but this was just meant to mystify, to give the band a more exotic touch. Even in Dutch tv-programmes the members didn't talk, or they talked English. Later they all appeared to be Dutch. 82.175.5.157 11:28, 18 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Didn't sing the songs
They didn't sing on the songs, or at least Kim didn't, and she was the only one who seemed to 'sing'. It's not that uncommon really, especially with Eurodance acts, and not that unsurprising with the Vengaboys given that they also lied about where they came from.
[edit] It was just a Clever Plan..
Since the begining of the Vengaboyz, their whole history was a Lie, they even had to speak in English while they were touring in Holland so people Believed they were from all over the world...and they were just plain Dutch people wich were selected in auditions... so also this history of the Dj´s is fake... Well that´s Music INDUSTRY.... and of course they never song a song....all playback...
[edit] Key info in Party album jacket
I also remembered some members were from Brazil. I got that information from the album jacket. Unfortunately a friend borrowed it and lost it. It also had an explanation that "venga" was meant to translate from Spanish to "revenge."
Billykuerten 04:27, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
- I find that unlikely, as revenge in Spanish is "venganza." --NEMT 17:36, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

- Yes, but vengar is "to take revenge". Véngate would be "avenge yourself!", for example. However "venga" is also the subjunctive form of venir (to come), and used frequently as an interjection. Sounds much more likely. –Andyluciano 17:51, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Venga means...
Venga in spanish means "come", of course... but it's like saying: "Venga aquí, por favor" ("Come here, please" -adressing courteously, because informal form would be: "Ven aquí, por favor"-) I think the real sense that the guest-singer meant is: "Come on!! Let's party!!". This "Venga" is often heard in lots of spanish songs. So, a real meaning could be "Come on!", "Get up!", etc. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 84.122.246.57 (talk) 01:16, 24 January 2007 (UTC).
[edit] Contradiction?
ALL THESE BOYS ARE GAY!!!"VENGA" IN SPANISH MEANS HALF.SO "VENGA BOYS" MEAN HALF-BOYS!!!!MEANING GAY OR SOMETHING!!!
-
- There is actually a discussion about what "Venga" means. FiringRange 21:32, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
There are romours that the 'girls' in the group were born as men.
[edit] Disputed Song Writer
According to the "The Party Album" album cover the song "Up and Down" was co-written by Darman-Smith. This spurious reference to Gary Reddin (B.A. Mod) [whatever that means] is obviously a case of somebody abusing the honour policy utilized here at Wikipedia. It's people like this that give Wikipedia a bad name. Unless veification can be provided for this the moderators will be contacted.
[edit] Credibility of Acclaimed Songwriter Gary Reddin
This is acclaimed songwriter Gary Reddin B.A.(mod). I am both shocked and appalled by the lack of respect shown to by exceptional songwriting talents. I have worked with numerous top bands over the years including Irish girl band Bewitched and the Scandanavia supremos, Aqua. Another one of my claims to fame is co-writing Vanilla's smash hit "No way, No way, Na na na na". This song is referred to by some people as, and I quote, "the greatest of all time". FACT! If verification of my talents is needed, then you can contact another hero of his time, Mr. J. Pepper, aka El Hadj Pepper and Luis Boa Pepper.
[edit] Terrible Article
I must say that this is one of the worst articles I have ever seen on wikipedia. Bios? Interviews? Do we really need to know what eye colour or what pets the individual members have? There is almost nothing of encyclopedic worth here. 99.253.120.23 (talk) 23:02, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
