Vegetarian hot dog
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A vegetarian hot dog (sometimes referred to as a "veggie dog") is a hot dog produced completely from non-meat products. A specific kind of vegetarian hot dog, the vegan hot dog (sometimes referred to as a "vegan dog") contains no animal products whatsoever.
Vegetarian hot dogs are sometimes eaten by non-vegetarians because they are generally lower in fat, calories, and cholesterol than meat hot dogs.
In vegetarian sausages, it's important that the casing itself isn't made of intestine but of synthetic materials, although even modern meat sausages usually have synthetic casings to guarantee a more consistent product.
A tofu hot dog is a meat-free alternative to regular hot dogs. They are made out of tofu and various spices and are sometimes fortified with extra vitamins and minerals. Tofu hot dogs are suitable for vegetarians, vegans and people looking to reduce their calorie and saturated fat intake.
They do taste somewhat similar to a regular hot dog and are cooked in a variety of ways. The same condiments used for meat hot dogs can be used for tofu hot dogs. Tofu hot dogs are usually low in calories, saturated fat, and cholesterol.
