Scarlet (from the Persian säqirl_t) is a red color with a hue that is somewhat toward the orange.

The color displayed at right, electric red (i.e., as opposed to pigment red) is the brightest possible red that can be reproduced on a computer screen. This color is an approximation of spectrum red. It is one of the three primary colors of light, along with green and blue.
This color is also called color wheel red. It is at precisely 0 (360) degrees on the HSV color wheel. Its complementary color is cyan.
This color is also the color called red in the X11 web colors, which were formulated in the mid-1990s.
When approximated (with less brightness) in pigments, this color is sometimes called true red.

Pigment red is the color red that is achieved by mixing process (printer's) magenta and process (printer's) yellow in equal proportions. This is the color red that is shown in the diagram located at the bottom of the following website offering tintbooks for CMYK printing: [1].
Psychedelic art made people used to brighter colors of red, and pigment colors or colored pencils called "true red" are produced which approximate (with much less brightness that is possible on a computer screen) the electric green shown above.

Cardinal red, also called cardinal, is a vivid red, which gets its name from the cassocks worn by cardinals. The family of birds takes its name from the color.

[edit] Major tints and shades of red color comparison chart
The purpose of the color comparison chart is, by arranging the tints and shades of a particular color in approximate order from lightest at the top to most saturated in the middle to darkest at the bottom, to allow the Wikipedia user to more easily choose a color they may need for a particular use. Having the colors arranged by shade rather than alphabetically makes it easier to do this.
