Tilburg University is an academic institution of higher education, specialising in economics and law, located in Tilburg in the southern part of the Netherlands.

Tilburg University has a student population of about 12,000 students, of which about 7 per cent are international students[1]. This percentage has steadily increased over the past years[2]. It offers both Dutch-taught and English-taught programmes.

The institution has gained a very strong reputation with regard to both research and education. In the field of economics, the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration ranked #1 in Europe for the second consecutive time in 2007 according to the Journal of the European Economic Association with regard to publications in top journals [3]. The Executive MBA programme at the university's TiasNimbas Business School ranks # 11 in the world according to the Financial Times [4]. In the field of law, Tilburg University was ranked #1 in the Netherlands for the last three years according to Elsevier Magazine[1], and came in second to Cambridge University in a ranking of European law schools[2].

In 2002, Tilburg University awarded honorary doctorates to Kofi Annan, Prof. dr. Hans-Dieter Klingemann, and Prof. Ariel Rubinstein in the presence of Queen Beatrix, and Crown Prince Willem-Alexander.

The Faculty of Economics and Business Administration (1927) is the oldest and largest faculty. The other five faculties - Law (1963), Social and Behavioural Sciences (1963), Arts (1981), Philosophy and Theology (1967) - are of more a recent date. In addition to these faculties, Tilburg University has a number of research centres and graduate schools.
