[edit] Other "Navy Memorial" in D.C.?

While starting the article Lyndon Baines Johnson Memorial Grove on the Potomac, I noticed that nearby is the "Navy and Marine Memorial" on "Navy-Marine Memorial" (map links: 38°52′34″N, 77°2′50″W, particulary TopoZone) -- they are both on Columbia Island (District of Columbia). It is not the USMC War Memorial ("Iwo Jima Memorial"). Does anyone know the history behind this other Navy memorial? Is it connected in any way with the Penn. Ave. memorial? Perhaps a section could be added here -- or maybe under the George Washington Memorial Parkway, of which it might be a part.[1]Eoghanacht talk 00:51, 15 March 2006 (UTC)

I looked into it, and the Navy and Marine Memorial, also called the "Coast Guard monument", was dedicated in 1934 and memorializes those who lost their lives at sea, as well as those still in service. Specifically, it's for the USCG and Merchant Marine, but the USN and USMC seem to be included as well. — TheKMantalk 01:36, 16 March 2006 (UTC)
