Basic infobox for protected areas. For copy-n-paste syntax and other how-to questions, see: Template talk:Infobox protected area.
The current version is based on discussions in October of 2005. (To see the former infobox, view the "history" of this page, and select the October 14, 2005 edit.) It can readily be used for national parks and other sites, such as national forests, national historical parks, state parks, et cetera. The base map for the United States (image:US Locator Blank.svg) is shown. There is also a base map for Australia (image:Australia Locator Map.svg and India. Different base maps, in the same style as the one shown, are being developed for some other places around the world.

Sample infobox for South African protected areas. The current map is a PNG format and can be interchanged for a svg map at a later date if needed. The PNG format map is slightly larger than the svg version, but not overwhelming and is color coded in a similar style as the map for the U.S. and Australia. (The coordinates, area, establishment date, and visitation for this infobox are accurate for Kruger National Park, but the wording of the location and governing body may be in need of adjustments.) The infobox can be expanded or reduced in the amount of information displayed
