[edit] Hosting Season 69 of UAAP
The University of the East is the host of the 69th season of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines, the eighth time for UE to host the UAAP. UE’s latest UAAP hosting stint coincided with UE's 60th Foundation Anniversary, its Diamond Jubilee.
UE’s sports teams have scored several victories prior to the start of the new UAAP season. These include the individual victories of UE athletes in the 23rd Southeast Asian Games, which in turn contributed to the country’s overall championship in last December’s SEA Games. UE athletes earned several medals, including eight gold ones bagged by seven athletes in men’s gymnastics, women’s athletics, men’s fencing, women’s boxing and softball.
Leading UE’s achievements in the 68th UAAP season’s seniors division were the respective championships of its men’s and women’s fencing teams. The fifth UAAP championship for the men’s team, the first for the women’s team.
In the last UAAP season as well, UE for the first time earned the overall championship in the juniors division. Sealed in part by the respective first place finishes of its chess team, boys’ and girls’ volleyball teams, table tennis team and girls’ swimming team. UE high school student and chess prodigy Nelson Mariano III even won the juniors division’s Athlete of the Year award, his second consecutive time to earn the title.
The new Season of the UAAP formally commenced at the Big Dome in Cubao last Saturday, July 8, 2006. Hosted by the University of the East, the home base of the Red Warriors, the opening ceremonies was led by UE P.E. Director and UAAP President Luz S. Sta. Ana. This year’s UAAP theme is “Achieving Excellence in Sports through Unity, Harmony and Commitment.” The production began with an opening number by the UE Dance Troup followed by the presentation of the UAAP colors representing the member schools. Pep squads of member schools also made their performances.
In extending their abiding support to their alma mater, former UE Red Warriors and Philippine basketball legends graced the ceremonies led by former Senator Robert, “the Big J” Jaworski, who also gave his short message to the athletes. Other former players includes “The Triggerman” Allan Caidic, Jerry Codiñera, and James Yap.

The Red Warriors fall to third place on the recently concluded season 69 of UAAP, after failing to win on their rubber match with the University of Santo Tomas. [edit] Other Collegiate Basketball Leagues
[edit] Champions of the 4th Collegiate Champions League
The Red Warriors are crowned as the champions of the fourth Collegiate Champions League (CCL) over the NCAA champions San Beda Red Lions. Acquiring the title of the national champions over 16 ball clubs in different collegiate leagues nationwide. The Red Warriors won with a score of 66-59 finals game last October 22, 2006.
The Warriors had such a strong campaign in the 2006 Champions League and delivered such a high-octane rally in the final game on October 22, 2006 that many of us likely forgot their saddening third-place finish at the ongoing UAAP season. The Red Warriors, in effect playing not just for UE but in the UAAP’s name, initially trumped the Emilio Aguinaldo Generals, the Philippine Christian Dolphins and the Mapua Cardinals. Ultimately dueling, in the one-game final round, with the San Beda Red Lions, an affair of Red versus Red.
Yet the final showdown was held at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum. The team unleashed more hits than misses, deep inside the paint and outside for the Warriors to triumphed by seven points, 66-59. The MVP of the game is sophomore James Martinez, a former San Beda Red Cubs during his high school years. UE also had strong performances from their veteran players and big men like Mark Borboran, Elmer Espiritu and Kelvin Gregorio.
Getting their second championship of the CCL, the first one is four years ago with PBA stars James Yap, Paul Artadi and Ronald Tubid.
[edit] Champions of the Home and Away Invitational League in Three Years
The Warriors recent accomplishment is capturing the HAIL Championship. The UE Red Warriors ruled the 2007 Home and Away Invitational League (HAIL) basketball tournament, capturing their 3rd straight championship in three years. Center Hans Thiele scored 15 points to lead the Red Warriors in a 77-72 win over the FEU Tamaraws on March 22 at the UE Manila Gym.
