U.S. Route 422 Business is a 7 mile long auxiliary route of U.S. Route 422 located in the Reading, Pennsylvania area. The route is one of four auxiliary routes of US 422 in Pennsylvania. Its western terminus is at an interchange with U.S. Route 222 and US 422 in Wyomissing. Its eastern terminus is at an interchange with US 422 in Reiffton.

422 Business begins in West Lawn, at an interchange with U.S. Routes 222 and 422. The interchange is the western terminus of the US 222/US 422 overlap, where the right-of-way of 422 Business changes designation to US 422. The route is signed as the east-west Penn Avenue, the primary arterial of Reading's western suburbs.[2]
In the borough of West Reading, 422 Business takes a northeast to east course. State Hill Road, Wyomissing Boulevard, and South Park Avenue are the major roads that intersect 422 Business within the borough. West of the Reading-West Reading boundary, 422 Business interchanges U.S. Route 422 via a cloverleaf interchange. East of US 422, the route crosses the Schuylkill River and enters the city of Reading.[3]
The bridge carrying 422 Business, passes over the Schuylkill River and Front Street (PA 183 south). At the end of the bridge, the route is named Penn Street, Reading's primary arterial.[4] Where Penn and 2nd Street (PA 183 north) intersect, 422 Business divides into a one-way couplet. The two carriageways are two blocks from each other and they are routed on Franklin (422 BUS east) and Washington (422 BUS west) Streets; 2nd Street is the connection and the merge location of the carriageways.[5]
In downtown Reading, 422 Business intersects U.S. Route 222 Business (5th Street). East of downtown Reading, the two carriageways merge onto Perkiomen Avenue. From there, the route divides into carriageways. 422 BUS west takes Mineral Spring Road while 422 BUS east takes Perkiomen Avenue.[6]
In Mount Penn, at the Aulenbach Cemetery junction, the two carriageways merge onto Perkiomen Avenue. From there, 422 Business intersects Pennsylvania Route 562, before turning south and taking a southeast alignment. The road then terminates, at an interchange with U.S. Route 422.[7]
