Being an AC/DC fan, Tyson loved rock music. Tyson met up with Nick Wheeler at a party, where he falsely informed Nick he could play bass in order to join Nick's current band. Tyson quickly picked up bass, and Nick and Tyson eventually formed their own band.

[edit] Personal Quotes

"Stillwater was actually perfect for us. It pretty much screams unexcitement. The only thing you can do here is drink beer, have sex or write music."

"I'll never forget when I was riding in my dad's faded turquoise-blue Chevy pickup, coming back from the drag races, and my dad heard a song on the radio and said, 'This is the shit!' So he blares it and he was pumpin' a fist in the air, and it was Alice in Chains' 'Rooster'."

"Yeah, and everybody who moves out to L.A. gets that Hollywood thing in their blood, and their second record always sounds like shit. And if we end up there,we take it back." --On Fame

"I'd be up all night watching AC/DC, then jumping up on the table in my pajamas and pretending to be Bon Scott."

"I saw Bad Religion in Kansas City and it was amazing. Tightest band I've ever seen live."

"The dumbest thing is when fans get so nervous that they treat you like shit. I'm so fascinated by it. I'll be like, 'Did ya enjoy the show?' and they'll be like, 'Eh.' They figure everyone is adoring you, so they'll take the opposite approach. At the very end, they're bummed that they acted the way they did, and it breaks my heart."

"I went right out, got a bass and learned how to play it. I stayed inside the whole time during Christmas break until I could come out and join the band."

[edit] Facts and Trivia

Ritter has a tattoo on his arm and shoulder along with the rest of the band that says 'AAR' and an outlet plugging into it added later.

"We all got the same tattoo, on our right breast-icle. We did some spring-break shows, and walking next to each other on the beach we'd look like a frat. People were like, 'Wow, Alpha Zeta Beta!' I was like, 'You've got to be shitting me!' That's the last thing I wanted people to think. So I have a power outlet on my elbow, plugging into my AAR."

How He Joined The Band: He saw them performing at a party and had to join them. They needed a bass player, so he volunteered. The only thing was, he'd never played a bass in his life. "I went right out, got a bass and learned how to play it," Ritter reports. His parents are divorced. Ritter weighed 215 pounds during his first year of high school and lost the extra weight by running 5 miles a day.

Ritter's favorite instruments at live shows include Fender Precision Bass “I am a P-Bass fanatic. They’re the best things ever made.” Gibson Thunderbird Ritter started playing bass with Rejects guitarist Nick Wheeler at age 14, learning to walk lines in a ska-influenced punk band. Nick and Tyson stuck together, writing songs and playing all the instruments for the All-American Rejects’ self-titled debut [Dreamworks, 2002]. “I’ve always done them together, which is probably why my bass parts sound the way they do: I work everything around the melodies.” Tyson also likes to be called "Ty".
