Hi, my name is Margaret-Mary O'Mahony. I'm a librarian living in Sheffield and working at the Library & Knowledge Service at Rotherham General Hospital, UK. I am originaly from Dunmanway in West Cork, Ireland.
I am interested in Irish History, especially the 17th Century period and have an MA in history from NUI Maynooth where I completed a thesis on the work of historian Geoffrey Keating. During my MA studies in I also spent 6 months in Denmark at Roskilde University (1994/1995). I qualified as a librarian from UCD Department of Library & Information Studies in 2000 and worked for almost 3 years at RTÉ as librarian in the Stills Library and Archive.
Even though my stay in Denmark was short I fell in love with all things Scandinavian and since then have built up a small collection of Scandinavian fiction in translation and Scandinavian films.
My favourite authors include: Peter Høeg, Henning Mankell, Pernille Rygg, Kerstin Ekman, Knut Hamsun, Olaf Olafsson, Halldór Laxness, Herbjørg Wassmo, Tarjei Vesaas, Eva-Marie Liffner, Ingvar Ambjornsen
I am also interested in the Viking period.
