The Tupolev Tu-80 was a modernized version of the Tupolev Tu-4 bomber with improvements on aerodynamics such as increased wing area, aircraft systems, weapon and equipment. The work done allowed an increase in the designed flight range in comparison with that of Tu-4 by 20-25%. The whole air frame had been aerodynamically refined and about 15% more fuel could be carried. Maximum speed with the same ASh-73TK engines was now 640 km/h. Its first flight was on 1 December 1949. However it was still not up to expectations and hence not produced.
