Trijang Rinpoche

Kyabje Trjang Rinpoche (1900-1981) was a Gelug Lama and a direct disciple of Je Pabongka. He was the junior tutor to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and the root lama of many of the most important Gelug Lamas to teach in the West including, Geshe Rabten, Lama Yeshe, and Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. Geshe Kelsang has likened Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche to, "a vast reservoir from which all Gelugpa practitioners of the present day received 'waters' of blessings and instructions",[1] and elsewhere he has been described as "One of the foremost Tibetan Buddhist masters of our time."[2]
He held many important positions within the Gelug School including Ganden Tripa, the head of Gelugpa's. Trijang Rinpoche was also responsible for editing the classic Lam Rim text 'Liberation in the Palm of Your Hand'.
Trijang Rinpoche, like his Teacher Pabongkha, was a strong adherent of the practice of the Dharma Protector Dorje Shugden and widely promoted it during his life. He wrote 'Music Delighting the Ocean of Protectors', a commentary to a praise of Dorje Shugden 'Infinite Aeons' written by Pabongkha's Guru Dagpo Rinpoche.[3]
Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche is credited with writing Gyallu, the Tibetan National Anthem adopted by the community in exile, around 1950.
