Trichotropidae, or the hairy shells, are a taxonomic family of small sea snails, marine gastropod molluscs in the order Sorbeoconcha.

[edit] Description

The shells are turbinate to narrowly or broadly fusiform, whorls rapidly increasing, the last usually dilated, with an angulated aperture, weakly channelled below. Sculpture is clathrate, covered by a periostracum that is often fringed or hirsute. The animal has a short broad head, an elongated foot and a very short siphon. The radula formula is 2+1+1+1+2. The central tooth is subquadrangular, multicuspid, lateral large with a finely crenulated margin, and the paired marginals curved, sharp and without denticles.
