Should we divide this incomplete list into two sections? One for true tricolours and those with symbols? --  Netsnipe  ►  16:43, October 25, 2003 (UTC)

I'm not sure. Also, is a tricolour with a symbol that has a color which is not one of the three colors still a tricolour? Do we need to differentiate between those two? Nikola 06:05, 26 Oct 2003 (UTC)

Were there any tricolours before the French Revolution, or is that the origin? Either way, we should give the history of the spread of this type of flag. -- Jmabel 23:50, Jul 1, 2004 (UTC)

The "Confusion and profusion of meanings" section is a string of "some say...some say...some say..." It makes for very unpleasant reading. Can you make it better so it doesn't sound like a section made up of hearsay?--24.5.125.75 22:40, 22 December 2005 (UTC)


The old flag of New York was the old Dutch Blue,White,and Orange vertical flag which would have pre-dated the French Revolutionary Tricolour. 20:17, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

Why does this page list not just tricolors but tribands as well? Tricolor is a subset of triband; shouldn't the two-color tribands be listed under triband? SpaceCaptain 16:19, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

Well, in some sense it is "not too difficult to grasp" but in the U.S. at least—and that's a pretty bit piece of the English-speaking world—"flag defacement" means pretty much the same as "flag desecration". - Jmabel | Talk 18:44, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Vertical tri-colours and revolution

Vertical tri-colours are said to be specific to countries that fought a revolution (e.g., Italy, France, Mexico, Afghanistan, etc). Is there some corroboration on this? The definition you are giving for tricolour is:

"A tricolour ("three colours") is a flag or banner more-or-less equally divided (horizontally, vertically, or, less frequently, diagonally) into three [emphasis added] bands of differing colours."

Notice the definition says only "three" bands of differing colors. With all due respect, why are the United States and Great Britain here? Crazypersonbb (talk) 21:57, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

I thought the same. But if you read the article carefully, it says somewhere that "some" people interpret the term "tricolour" differently (allegedly). Still, the fact remains that the article contradicts itself and is confusing. 86.146.226.38 (talk) 08:44, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
Seeing as nobody has countered your statements, that the other tricolour meaning is uncited, and that I am in agreement with both of you, I am going to edit the page to remove the US, British, and other flags which are not proper Tricolours. Rudy Breteler (talk) 20:24, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
