TravelPod

TravelPod is an online service which allows users to create travel blogs. According to TravelPod, it was the first website to offer this free service[1] when it was founded by Luc Levesque in 1997, pioneering the concept of the travel blog, which is also known as a travelogue or travel journal. TravelPod is part of the Expedia group.

TravelPod was built by travellers for travellers and has not changed this principle since 1997, though other features have been added, such as photo and video uploading. In late 2005, TravelPod enabled its users to submit photos by mobile phone devices, which in internet slang is known as moblogging. TravelPod allows travellers to notify family, friends and other travellers whenever they update their blog. Due to the public nature of the travel blog, TravelPod also gives its members the possibility to password-protect their blog.

Membership reached 20,000 members in November, 2005.[2] TravelPod has also received widespread positive press from such publications as The Wall Street Journal[3], The New York Times[4], National Geographic Magazine[5] and PC Magazine[6].

Most recently, the adjective "Travelpodder" has been applied to people who use this website to write their blogs while traveling. [7]

The verb 'pod has also been used in popular culture in such instances as "I will 'pod the summit of Mt. Everest tomorrow, when I have more time."[8]

TravelPod developers have created a quiz, the Traveler IQ. Players have to locate on a map cities or famous places. This game is popular on FaceBook and played daily by 4% of active users[9].
