[edit] Expansion
Boca town center has undergone several face lifts over the past several years. The mall was known for it's luxury stores, however, started to decline in the late 90's. The year 2000 changed the mall greatly. It started with the abandoned anchor "Mervyn's" was renovated an expanded to make room for the new Saks Fifth Avenue. This upgrade to the mall encouraged the property to overhaul the entire mall, repaint, re floor, and modernize. This massive change brought in new clients, such as Willams Sonoma, Tiffany's, and Cartier. After the new Saks store was completed, Saks moved from it's former location into the new one. Shortly after, the old saks was bullduzed to make room for the new wing, to be anchored by Nordstrom. This new wing brought dozens of new stores, including Armani Exchange, Abercrombie & Fitch, Tommy Bahama, Pottery Barn, Hugo Boss, J. Jill, Coach, and several others. At the same time, the mall created two new parking garages, and Bloomingdales increased their area by several hundreds of feet. At the same time, the food court was renovated, and a book store was added to the back of it.
Throughout the 2000's, little renovations rapidly improved the quality of the mall. Many stores which were no longer popular moved out, making room for more high end shopping. During this time, Lord and Taylor renovated their store, only to move all of their stores out of Florida, making room for an empty anchor, which is now Neiman Marcus. Many stores renovated their spaces, or moved to an entirely new space. Even more high end stores are making their way in, including Michael Kors, Intermix, and Baby Cottons.
In 2005, TGI Fridays officially closed, and was bulldozed to make room for the new Cheesecake Factory concept, The Grand Lux Cafe. This specialty restaurant, one of the few in the entire country, has a similar menu to Cheesecake, however, has extensive interior design, and made to order desserts.
The mall also went through a realignment of Gap. Once the highest trafficked Gap "center" in South Florida, babyGap, gapKids, Gap Body, and a two entrance adult store occupied an entire corner of the mall. Due to re-alignment in the mall, and downsizing of the brand, the gap adult store renovated and reduced it's space, gapKids closed, and babyGap moved to another end of the mall. This all has been temporary, as soon babyGap and Gap Body will close, to move into an expanded store, with the comeback of gapKids in the new "Terrace" section.
Macy's, formerly Burdines, then Macy's-Burdines, has had several rounds of renovations. Major renovations started in 2006, followed by a third floor added in 2007, followed by a floorplan overhaul at the beginning of 2008. Currently, Macy's in undergoing another expansion, increasing their area into empty space in a service alley.
The mall is currently adding a lifestyle section as a leg to the most recently added Nordstrom wing, called "The Terrace at Town Center". The anchor of the expansion is Crate & Barrel. Anthropologie, Chico's, The Walking Co., Select Comfort, Blue Martini and Bing Crosby's Piano Bar will also be opening as part of the expansion.[1]
[edit] Crime
Boca town center mall has been the center of a few major crime incidents the past 15 years. In 1996, a customer was running around the mall with an weapon, and in 2007, two people were found dead in the parking lot. These are two isolated incidents that is in no way related to the mall. Crime is everywhere, and two incidents in 12 years are nothing compared to other areas.
